Furthering their campaign for re-investigation and re-trial of the infamous 2018 multi-crore drugs haul case, women organisations in Manipur on Tuesday submitted memorandums to two MPs and the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

On December 17 last, special ND&PS court had acquitted former chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC) of Chandel, Lukhosei Zou and six others accused in the case.

Alleging something fishy in the verdict of the court, various civil society organisations campaigning against drug abuse and women organisations have been demanding that the government goes to the higher court for re-investigation and re-trial.

Stating that the whole section of the society was dissatisfied with the recent verdict of the court and stating that they were skeptical of the court verdict, as many as 26 women bodies based in the state have been pressing the state government to appeal to the higher court for re-investigation and re-trial of the case.

They had submitted memorandums to the state Governor and the chief minister regarding the matter on January 8 last. They have also submitted a similar memorandum to the president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee urging the opposition party to bring up the matter with the government.

Furthering their campaign, leaders of the 26 women bodies today submitted memorandums to two MPs – Leishemba Sanajaoba of Rajya Sabha and RK Ranjan of Lok Sabha and to Speaker Y Khemchand.

Talking to reporters after submission of the memorandums, Nupi Samaj president, Nganbi Devi said that women bodies were not satisfied with the verdict of the court that acquitted Lukhosei Zou. She also said that women bodies are skeptical of the court verdict.
