Mkg district administration says tournament has caused law and order situation
MOKOKCHUNG, OCTOBER 21 (MExN): The Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner today in an order suspended the ongoing MDFA football tournament. In the order, the Mokokchung DC stated that the tournament “has caused law and order situation in the district HQ.”
Meanwhile, the MDFA organizing committee expressed shock at the order. “It is understandable that there was some misunderstanding among the teams playing the tournament from time to time for varied reasons, the Mokokchung district administration giving a suspension order of the most popular and much awaited football tournament in the district, without calling the MDFA or the organizing committee for a consultation, is most shocking and uncalled for,” a press note from the committee said.
It conceded that in this year’s edition of the tournament “there were also some unforeseen hitches.” “The 1st Semi-final match between Sports Society Suyim & Dilong Youth Association had to be stopped because of incompetent and unprofessional refereeing,” it stated and informed that the referee of the day “has already been suspended by the Panel of Jury, Sub Committee MDFA Trophy 2016. The MDFA actively coordinated with the teams and other stakeholders and the situation was brought to an amicable conclusion and the match refixed on Saturday, October 22 2016.”
It informed that the district administration stopped the second semi final match between Fusion SC & Shitilong SA.
“This shocking order came out of the blue when the MDFA officials were trying their best to bring an amicable understanding between the teams. The order has also hurt the sentiments of the MDFA members since Association is of the view that the MDFA Trophy 2016 has not brought about any law and order problem in the district headquarter,” it added.
This suspension, it stated “has given a big blow to the prestigious tournament, the game of football in Mokokchung district, the football players and supporters in the district.”
It informed that the MDFA would call meetings “among the different stakeholders for further course of action.”
The MDFA and the MDFA Trophy 2016 organizing committee expressed regret at the turn of events, and also apologized to the football fans of Mokokchung “for the inconveniences caused due to unavoidable circumstances.”
