The Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) celebrated its silver jubilee here on September 29 at the Mayangnokcha GHSS Auditorium under the theme ‘Promoting Excellence’. MDFA was formed in the year 1992 and has ever since its formation worked untiringly for the promotion of football in the district.
The jubilee celebration began with ‘homage to departed colleagues’ which was presided over by former president Moakaba Aier. Other highlights of the programme included the welcome address by MDFA president Apong Jamir, jubilee greetings speech by Manpai Phom, ADC Mokokchung on behalf of the DC and President of Mokokchung District Sports Council, special number by MDFA Life Member and retired football coach Noksang Pongen and Yashirenla Jamir, felicitation and citation of past and present leaders and members of the association conducted by MDFA vice president Dr. Tia Imchen and release of jubilee souvenir magazine by I.Sashi Pongener, the first general secretary of MDFA.
Short speeches were also delivered by Bendangyanger, MDFA Life Member and retired Director of Agriculture and former president Alem Jongshi, Additional Secretary, Government of Nagaland on the topics “MDFA as I remember” and “MDFA in the next 25 years” respectively.
A new MDFA Trophy was also unveiled by I.Sashi Pongener, founder general secretary of MDFA, regarded as the “architect of MDFA” by his friends, who is currently serving as Deputy General Manager, NE Circle, SBI, Guwahati. As stated by the president of MDFA, the old trophy would be “shelved as memorabilia” while the new trophy was being unveiled in commemoration of the association’s silver jubilee.
Group draw ceremony of the ensuing MDFA Trophy tournament scheduled to begin October 3 next was also conducted. Fifteen teams divided into four pools will be competing in the tournament to be played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
