
Kohima, September 9 (MExN): Model Christian College held its cultural cum literary day on September 6 and 7 at the college auditorium.
The 12th Cultural Day of the college was observed under the theme ‘Promote and Enrich Culture.’
Dr Kekhriesenuo Christina, Assistant Professor and HOD, Department of sociology, was the speaker for the event, while Swelul Pucho, chairman, TTC (AG), graced the occasion as special guest.
In defining culture, Dr Kekhriesenuo said “culture is us, who we are, and what we are” and that it is people who represent culture. She said that Nagas’ culture is threatened by several forces such as westernization and that there is a need to protect and preserve culture, while adding “culture is our identity, if we lose it, we lose ourselves.”
In the course of her speech, she encouraged the students to work towards reinvigorating the good old traditions. She further encouraged the students to go back to the roots through documentation of culture, preservation of cultural relics and heritage.
Chairman Swelul in his speech quoted “The brave do not abandon their culture.” Swelul also encouraged the students to become “torch bearers to our true Naga culture.”
The speeches were followed by fusion song, a play on a Naga folktale, which was then followed by folk dance and attire show in the second session.
The Literary Day was celebrated on the second day of the event. Dr Nungshikokla Jamir, Vice Principal, MCC encouraged the students to dare and dream for education that will manifest humanity.
She further encouraged the students to have a positive attitude towards life. Various competitions were held among the four groups: Rennaissance, Blazers, Shield, and Guardians. The competitions included group song, quiz, photography, extempore speech, talent show, debate etc. Rennaissance emerged as the group champion.
Meanwhile, BASN organized Miss Nagaland’ campus audition on the second day in the college auditorium where six students auditioned.
