Model Training Course on natural resource management concludes

Medziphema, September 4 (MExN): The valedictory programme of the eight-day Model Training Course (MTC) on ‘Recent advances in natural resource management for doubling farmer’s income under changing climate scenario’ was held at ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland on September 4.   The MTC was sponsored by Directorate of Extension (DOE), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and organized by ICAR-NRC on Mithun. It may be recalled that Dr. A.K Vasisht, Asst. Director General (Project Implementation & Monitoring), ICAR, New Delhi graced the inaugural function of the MTC as chief guest on August 28.   The objective of the training course was to sensitize and to impart capacity building of the extension functionaries about the importance and management of natural resources. A total of 19 extension officials from the department of agriculture, Veterinary & Animal husbandry, KVKs and ATMAs of Nagaland, Manipur and Gujarat participated in the training. A select team of highly qualified resource persons and trainers from academia and research institutes like ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, ICAR-RCNEHR, Nagaland Centre, and ICAR-NIAP, New Delhi shared their expertise with the participants. During the training program, 22 lectures were delivered on natural resource management of water, soil, horticulture along with fish and livestock management.   Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha, Director (Extension), Central Agriculture University, Imphal, who graced the Valedictory function as the Chief Guest, commended the efforts put in by ICAR-NRC on Mithun, the Trainers and the participants for shaping such a successful training program. The training programme he said, was aimed to enhance the knowledge of the extension functionaries on natural resource management and to mitigate the issues of climate change. He hoped that such training would help in imparting the knowledge to the framers towards doubling their income. Dr. Samrendra Hazarika, Principal Scientist & Head (Natural Resource Management), ICAR-RCNEHR, Umiam in his address as a special guest highlighted the importance of natural resources.   Addressing the valedictory session, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun paid his gratitude to all the trainers and the participants who contributed their time and knowledge to this training program. He further extended an invitation to all the trainees to remain in touch and bring out the issues pertaining to farmers welfare. Dr. Jayanta Chamuah, Scientist (Veterinary Parasitology) and Dr. Kobu Khate, CTO of ICAR-NRC on Mithun acted as the co-ordinator of the training programme.
