Mokochung DPDB discusses expansion of town

Mokokchung, February 11 (DIPR): The monthly meeting of Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), held on February 11, extensively discussed on the need to explore new areas for further expansion of Mokokchung town. The meeting strongly felt that the present areas of the town have reached the limit and there was little scope for undertaking any scheme for development of the town.

Taking part in the discussion, DPDB Chairman Dr. Longri, MLA, suggested undertaking an exercise to prepare a master plan by a committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner. The meeting also opined that discussion should be held with four villages, namely Ungma, Mokokchung, Chuchuyimpang and Khensa involving the councils for their views as expansion could not be made without their cooperation.

Minister for Youth Resources and Sports, Merentoshi stated the urgent need was to look for taking up infrastructure development in places beyond the town as in Kohima with concerted efforts of all departments. He said his department would also consider taking up some project in this aspect.
The discussion concluded with a formation of a seven-member committee headed by DC Mokokchung.

The meeting also discussed development of Special Development Zone on areas where Foothill road is to pass through in the district, restriction on sale of land to non Nagas in border areas, rampant extraction of coal and its transportation without following the rules of the standing order of the department concerned, proposal for hosting the Nagaland Literature, Festival 2014 in Mokokchung town, and hosting of 6thNagaland Veteran Foot ball tournament.

Shifting of DC Office to Youth Hall near Imkongmeren Sports complex was finalized and for this the DC was requested to take up matters with youth resources department.
The meeting also decided to forward its recommendation for opening commerce stream in Fazl Ali College and filling up of shortage of teaching staff in the college. Registration of Ao Senden Literature Society and grant-in-aid to a voluntary organization was also decided to be forwarded to the government.

The DPDB meeting was attended by two members of Kohima DPDB, Ketoho Luho ADC, Kohima and Tarachu Fithu, Asstt Director, Urban Development. They shared about their focus areas during 2013-14 and village vision cell through PowerPoint presentation.
