Mokokchung: Rural youth attend skill based training on mushroom cultivation

Mokokchung, October 17 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung in collaboration with State Agriculture Management and Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema & MANAGE, Hyderabad conducted a six-day STRY programme on mushroom cultivation at MCTE, Yimyu ward, Mokokchung from October 9 to 14.

An update received here stated that the training programme aimed at imparting skill based training to rural youth on mushroom cultivation as it has become popular for their food, economic and environmental value. It is an up and coming source of alternative income for many agripreneurs. A total of 20 people attended the training. 

The training started with an inaugural programme chaired by Bendangkumzuk, BTM, Ongpangkong South Block, ATMA, Mokokchung. Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Director, ATMA, Mokokchung shared on  the training highlights for STRY, its implications, objectives and future projections offering modular training skill to rural youth in creating employment opportunities and financial stability. 

The resource persons for the training were Rongsenrenla Longkumer ATM, Ongpangkong South Block, ATMA Mokokchung, Chubaienla Jamir ATM, Chuchuyimlang Block, ATMA, Mokokchung, Abenla B Jamir ATM, Chuchuyimlang Block, ATMA Mokokchung, Bendangkumzuk BTM, Ongpangkong South Block ATMA Mokokchung, Akangjungshi B Jamir, ATM, Ongpangkong South Block, ATMA Mokokchung and Shilunokdang Jamir ATM, Mangkolemba Block, ATMA Mokokchung. 

The topics covered by the resource persons on the theory session were: scope and importance of mushroom technology, nutritional and medicinal benefits, low cost cultivation of mushroom for doubling farmer’s income, climate requirements for cultivation of paddy straw oyster mushroom, guide to small scale mushroom farming, post harvest management, economics of oyster mushroom and importance of value addition. In the practical session, they covered the hands on demonstration – cutting of paddy straw, sterilization process, preparation of mushroom bags, techniques of preservation and sterilization, preparation of oyster mushroom pickle.

The training valedictory programme was chaired by Akangjungshi, feedback from the participants was delivered by Maongsunep Kichu, valedictory speech and distribution of certificate was conducted by Sentinaro and vote of thanks by Mathiba Kichu, Asstt Professor, PEDAGOGY of Mathematics MCTE.
