
Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): Condemnations from various organisations continue to pour in regarding the alleged assault on a female nursing student at the District Hospital Dimapur on February 24. On Thursday, the Angami Women Organisation (AMO), Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA), Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO), Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), Khiamniungan Students’ Union Dimapur (KSUD), and Tenyimi Union Dimapur, Chumukedima, Nuiland (TUDCN) joined others in unequivocally denouncing the incident.
The organisations further reiterated their demands for justice and accountability. They also expressed solidarity with the victim and her family while advocating for stronger measures to protect women’s safety.
Angami Women Organisation (AWO): Any attack on nurses and healthcare workers is an attack on the very values of humanity and justice, the AWO stated, condemning the incident as "deeply disturbing." In this connection, it urged hospitals/institutions to implement strong measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The AWO also called upon the authorities to take swift and stringent action against the perpetrators and deliver justice without delay.
Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA): CMA condemned the incident as a violation of women’s fundamental rights, safety, dignity, and right to practice any profession. Accordingly, it demanded effective and appropriate disciplinary actions against the perpetrator and stated that it would not tolerate any attempt to bail or grant bail to the accused.
Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO): Denouncing the "reprehensible assault," the DAYO stated that such an act of violence, especially against a woman, is deeply disturbing and goes against the values and traditions of our Naga society. While appreciating the swift action taken by the police in apprehending the accused, the organization urged swift justice and stringent punishment. The DAYO also called upon the concerned authorities to implement stringent security measures within hospital premises to prevent such heinous incidents from recurring.
Khiamniungan Students’ Union Dimapur (KSUD): The KSUD condemned the incident and stated that there is no room for such crimes in society, asserting that the union will stand strong to support and protect individuals against such actions. It further urged all public and private institutions to take necessary planned measures to tackle and prevent such undesirable occurrences in the future.
Naga Council Dimapur (NCD): The NCD condemned the act as a pre-planned provocation against women’s sanctity and urged a thorough investigation as well as swift and befitting punishment for the perpetrator, without granting bail.
The NCD reiterated its call for making Dimapur a crime-free city, an initiative it is undertaking in collaboration with all Tribal Hohos and Civil Society Organisations and urged all stakeholders to offer full cooperation to the law enforcement authorities in their investigation to ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
The council also urged the government to deploy a maximum number of police personnel, including Mahila police, at designated locations within the District Hospital Dimapur premises and other vulnerable areas.
Further, the NCD conveyed its appreciation to the Western Chakhesang Hoho and Chakhesang Women’s Organisation for their cooperation with the law enforcement in the investigation of the incident.
Tenyimi Union Dimapur, Chumukedima, Nuiland (TUDCN): The TUDCN also expressed outrage over the incident and questioned the concerned authority and the administrative and law enforcement agency for the lack of security within the hospital. The union also indicated that there were two culprits and demanded the booking of both, as well as public disclosure of the perpetrators' identities and prompt legal action
