The District Employment Officer/Model Career Centre Mokokchung, in collaboration with the National Career Service (NCS), successfully hosted a Job Fair today, attracting a large number of job seekers and recruiters. The event was hailed as a step in bridging the gap between employers and potential employees, offering a platform for direct interaction.
The Job Fair, held at the District Employment Office/Model Career Centre in Kumlong Ward, Mokokchung, saw participation from five companies- Longpok Holdings, Talent Acquaintance, SBI Life Insurance, NSDC & Skill India, and Jio Telecom. More than 100 enthusiastic job seekers from various educational and professional backgrounds attended the event.
District Employment Officer (DEO) Mokokchung, T. Yimlikhumzuk, underscored the importance of such initiatives in addressing the district’s growing employment needs. With over 70,000 unemployed youths registered in the state, and more than 2,500 registered in Mokokchung alone—a number the DEO believes may be much higher—urged participants to fully utilize the opportunities provided. He noted that the job vacancies were not only limited to local positions but also extended to roles outside the state and even internationally.
Job seekers at the fair were able to explore a diverse array of career options and participate in on-the-spot interviews with potential employers. As a result, 127 candidates were shortlisted by the participating companies for potential employment. These companies will conduct further screenings before issuing offer letters to the selected candidates.
Expressing her gratitude, Imtisenla, one of the candidates who participated in the interviews, told this newspaper that she was very appreciative of the DEO for providing such a platform. She shared that her interview went well and that she was hopeful about the outcome.
Meanwhile, Temsuienla, who recently completed her master’s degree, said she was interviewing for an HR position with Longpok Holdings, choosing the company because it was locally based.
The DEO extended his gratitude to the participating companies, job seekers, media houses, and the District Skill Committee (DSC) Member Secretary for their vital contributions to the event’s success. “The collaboration with the National Career Service has been instrumental in bringing this job fair to life. Our goal is to continue providing these opportunities to the community, ensuring that job seekers have access to meaningful employment,” he stated.
He added that this first-of-its-kind event in the district marks a positive step toward addressing the employment challenges faced by the community.
