Muivah’s service to the nation for 60 years is questionable

It is learned from The Morung Express that on March 23, 2024 (Saturday) the NSCN-IM leaders and workers celebrated the 90th Birthday of Th Muivah and 60 years of his service to the Naga nation.

His 90th birthday is ok but his service to the Naga nation for 60 years is questionable. It is in the record of the Naga National Council (NNC) is Th Muivah joined the NNC in December 1964 (the last part of the year), and was entrusted as General Secretary of the NNC on February 6, 1965, at Viswema NNC General meeting. Under his “NNC General Secretary” leadership, the Nagas Army Goodwill Mission Commanded by Brig. Thinoselie was sent to China for the first time in March 1967. I admire him and Brig Thinoselie for successfully leading the Naga Army to China bearing the hazardous hardship and situation on the way. Though the Naga Army under the Command of Brig Thinoselie returned home in 1968, but Th Muivah in 1972.

As Atem recounted Muivah’s services, Th Muivah, General Secretary of NNC, was sent again to China by the President of FGN, Late Zashei Huire in September 1974. He and the late Isak Swu came back to the Eastern Part of Nagaland in January 1976 along with 150 Naga soldiers and stayed in Eastern Nagaland. Then, Muivah went to China again in 1977 along with 300 Naga soldiers and came back again to the Eastern Oking in 1978 but with badly divided among them from China, those stood for Muivah’s socialism and the Naga traditional democracy under the leadership of AZ Phizo, the then President of NNC.

After reaching the Eastern Oking, the Naga Army top officers planned to declare Martial Law if and when Muivah forcefully overthrew Phizo’s leadership and attempted to form a socialistic form of Government.

At the same time, we advised Muivah, yet he never took heed of our advice but rather adopted a resolution to overthrow Phizo’s leadership on 2nd August 1978, which triggered to declared Martial Law on August 30, 1978, and the two leaders (Isak-Muivah) were kept under house arrest till May 1979 (more than eight months) as Atem recounted the story.

After he was released in May 1979, Muivah started killing the NNC/FGN leaders and Naga Army top officers on July 15, 1979, by killing Lt Col Yamtsethong. For only the simple reason that they did not support his socialism. After eliminating all his opponents, he formed the so-called National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) on January 31, 1980. (Only after 2000, did they change the name and calling “Nagalim”).

Since the formation of NSCN, he systematically killed the NNC/FGN leaders and workers, and the innocent Nagas who supported the NNC/FGN and refused to support socialism. More than four thousand innocent Nagas were killed by him. The list of his victims was recorded in the book “Nagaland and Th Muivah’s Terrorist Activities” published in 2005.

Therefore, such treacherous acts cannot be counted as serving the Naga nation by the right-thinking Naga people. I and the NNC/FGN leaders will never count it. We can count his service to the nation; from 1965 to August 1978 respectively, that is; 13 years only but not 60 years. Because, from 1979 to 2024, “45 years”, he has been unabatedly working against the Naga nation, his headquarters stationed in New Delhi, the Capital City of India since 2004.

Instead, he should realize and set his people on the right path admitting he made a mistake. Before he dies, he should admit his misdeed. I requested Khaplang thrice to admit his misdeed and abolish the NSCN setup in the interest of Naga national reconciliation before he died, but he never did it and passed away on June 9, 2017. It would be better for Muivah to do it in the last part of his life so as to leave his good legacy in history by relinquishing the NSCN setup and founding the Naga national reconciliation.
