It was time for torn jeans and rock star tees at the ‘Rock Knock Fest’ today in Kohima. Throngs of young people from all the major schools in Kohima turned up to ‘head bang’ with their favourite rock bands and also listen to inspirational resource persons. Even the weatherman seemed to have relented as the skies cleared up to make way for music and fun. The event started with an inauguration of 3G technology by Aircel.
The band OFF, lead by Lui Tzudir, took the stage first and performed covers as well as originals of the band. Later Ate Kevichusa, noted TV Director/Producer took the stage to give a talk about show business. In her speech she requested young people who go out of the state to study, not to confine themselves to their own communities but to mingle with people from other cultures as well. Further Ate added that every talent is usable and that the media industry employs people with varied talents and abilities. Ate also encouraged the gathered crowd to be reliable, honest and diligent in their chosen professions.
Other resource persons who also spoke included Mr. Niketu Iralu, who said that the event was a sign that older brothers care. Talking about ‘rebellion’, Mr. Iralu said that rebellion though good should have a limit and make way for responsibility to set in. Saying that reformation comes through everyone learning to take responsibility, he encouraged the young people to rise to be constructive and creative leaders.
Mr. Pfheluophelie Kesiezie, another resource person for the event, spoke about choosing what one wants to do in life and also about the importance of God in ones life. Quoting C.S. Lewis who said ,’All things that are not eternal are eternally useless’, Mr. Kesiezie challenged the young people to ‘live as though you will die tomorrow and work as though you were to live forever’.
The last resource person was Pastor Shan Kikon who spoke about Jesus. In his speech he said that one may fulfill all of ones dreams and ambitions but if one doesn’t have Jesus, life will always be empty and meaningless. Drawing examples from his life experiences Pastor Kikon said that motivational talks are temporary and pumps up ones ego up for a few months but the only lasting solution is Jesus. Further he challenged the crowd to ‘take a decision to make success the right way’.
Other bands who kept the crowd on its toes were Black Rose, Eximous and Grafitti. The event was organized by Jetlagged Inc under the theme ‘A positive life is knocking on your door, open it and live it’.
