‘Naga ceasefire remains operational in Manipur’

DIMAPUR, JULY 4 (MExN): Manipuri people who call themselves as Nagas are yet to be recognised and given a place in the Assembly by the Nagaland Government nor are they included among the list of 16 different tribes living in Nagaland, stated former president of United Committee Manipur (UCM) Sapamcha Jadumani.

Addressing a function held in connection with the 5th foundation day of UCM at MDU Hall here on July 3, Jadumani charged the Governments of Nagaland and India of injecting venom among the various ethnic groups of people living in Manipur since time immemorial, according to a news report carried in Imphal based The Sangai Express.

“Extension of Indo-Naga ceasefire has been lifted from Manipur only in name sake. It is very much in force in Manipur and the Government of Manipur has been supporting it openly,” Jadumani alleged, while demanding Government of Manipur to give an explanation to the people in this regard.

Lambasting Chief Minister O Ibobi for having smiled at the ‘Welcome to Nagalim’ banner put up to welcome him at Senapati district recently instead of pulling up those who were behind the mischievous act, Jadumani said it only goes to show that Ibobi himself supports the Naga movement and takes the threat posed to the territorial integrity of Manipur very lightly apart from the fact that he does not understand the aspiration of his own people.

Citing another instance of Manipur Government’s alleged soft stand on the Naga issue, he mentioned the State Government inability to take up action against Naga frontal organisations like ANSAM and UNC which are illegally collecting money from the people of Manipur.

Reiterating that the territorial integrity of Manipur should not compromise at any cost and under any circumstances, former UCM president observed that the stand of Manipuri people on the issue of territorial integrity would become all the more resolute as and when the Nagas step up sinister designs of disintegrating Manipur.
