Is Naga society prepared for foreign investors to come into Nagaland?

Some of those who voted  YES had this to say:
•    Yes Naga people are. law & orders, providing security assistance, vigilance, must be from the GON
•    We have the manpower now... No country or state was ever ready for the investors to establish a business but let them in and tackled whatever problems or short comings they had as they progressed. Waiting for the right atmosphere or circumstances is not the right approach. I know that we are in a situation where we cannot provide total security to the investors but if they are willing to take risk and invest then I would say, welcome them with open arms and extend all support possible so that we can grow along with it.
•    all works progress under understanding and Christians are naturally understanding
•    Nagaland and her people are in dire need for Domestic as well as Foreign investors. And I mean it when I say its foremost priority and necessity, to entice the investors. But the big question mark is, IS NAGALAND FEASIBLE FOR INVITING INVESTORS? What are the odds? What type of investors are willing to invest, where there is no industry or in short, feasible infrastructure? Are we the Nagas ready to face, the challenges ahead? There are many questions to be answered. But I hope, we will be ready one day.
•    Yea, especially those from Korea.
•    As far as my take on Foreign Direct Investment in Nagaland is concerned, our Naga society in general is believed to have no problem with FDI as in fact, this very issue is of paramount importance which is perceived to be indispensable in bringing holistic and sustainable developments in terms of requisite infrastructures, required high technologies, secondary in tertiary industries, etc to the state that its dependent economic with self confessed consuming society really ever need more than anything else in order to boost its gross local products and generate employment opportunity for Nagas who are now excelling in every field of discipline while being given great attention to conservation of flora and fauna on the land of festivals. Once again, make no mistake that the FDI in Nagaland will certainly not be a bane but a boon to all and sundry of our Naga brothers and sisters in particular and the Naga society and its future generation at large.

Some of those who voted NO  had this to say:
•    I really don’t think that Nagas are ready for foreign investors. Just look at the state of our infrastructure, its in a complete mess. Also I don’t think we have our priorities right. At this rate, foreign investors will rip Nagaland off our natural resources.
•    What ready?! We'll extort from them, threaten them, kidnap them, traumatize them so badly that they'll run off at the speed of lightning. Sorry for being so negative, but at the moment, I don't think we have what it takes, esp. In the area of law and order.
•    Unstable government, insurgency problems, lack of infrastructure, and RAP must be taken cared of first.
•    No, unless the internal problem solve
•    The Law and order problem will not encourage investors to come to Nagaland.
•    Extortion and corruption is the main problem here in Nagaland... tell me who wants to risk (Extortion and corruption)..to come and invest in Nagaland? i doubt?
•    A definite 'No' as long as AFSPA and "Inner Line Permit" is in operation.
•    Internal problems due to which even Indian companies are still to participate with full strength
•    its because our society is fragile/unstabilized. Few might gain but the general populace will not benefit. For nagas to enjoy the fruit of foreign investment, a balanced/matured society and economic policy is needed.
•    Every society needs foreign investment. There is no country in the world that does not rely on investors from abroad. Nagas will also require investment. But this is not the time now. Most of the people are still naïve and there is a great deal of insecurity and inequality. If foreign investors were to come now, than I am sure only a handful of people will benefit from the investment, while the rest will remain exploited. We need to prepare ourselves before we agree to any investment of any kind.
•    Bull shit. Nobody wants to die. Those thieves in nagaland had more than enough to invest, but were hesitating to invest cause if they preserve their life. You either have to be a kilonser first and invest.
•    There is no unity and understanding between us.
•    i believe Foreign Investors will never come in nagaland because of Extortion from various Group and a friendly behaviour ndly of naga people.
•    The govt. will have to upgrade the power distribution systems too. No one will invest big time where regular power supply cannot be guaranteed. Unless the state govt. is in complete control of the law and order situation in our land, we too... should not mislead others to come and be harassed. They will leave our land with bad experiences and share that to the world. The state government is inviting people to invest in our land but the question we need to ask is,' who is really in-charge in our land?' Yes the people/society want development and progress but is the political scenario conducive for outside investors to come and be partners in our quest for development? We have to be honest and not cheat others too with false assurances.
•    until and unless if there is no institutional reforms esp right sizing of the bureaucracy any investment be it domestic or foreign direct investment all will go down to drain and the trickle down of profit will nt go down to common people or community. infact, there is lack of political trust deficit in nagaland.... whatever the government are saying are rhetoric in nature be it congress or npf.....! at the ground level we naga's can't even manage to maintains roads what do you think ? are we capable of managing economy in the state? a simple example is roads in kohima...its a pitty that we talk about global investment and we can even manage roads in the capital....! lets first do our home work and then lets talk about global investment in the state. basic infrastructure is a problem! n we all want easy money particular at the institutional level so things are getting bad to worse in nagaland. days in early 1970, 1980 live was at peace and lively....!
•    No infrastructure development in the state, and nagaland has many bottom line problems, in many sectors for foreign companies to invest. govt should provide 70-80% infrastructure developments otherwise no foreign company will be willing for big scale investment.
•    No! and I believe deeply that every sensible fellow Nagas are behind me in agreeing with me in saying No. Every single investment company must be banned for once and for all. We had enough of these capitalist swines who come only for their selfish motives. These capitalists lack courage and zeal to work for the people. They can be at best termed as the biggest fraudsters Nagaland had ever seen. The people themselves know it very well how many lakhs of rupees of their hard earned savings have been snatched away by these capitalists and commercial business profiteers. They must be brought to trail and awarded life sentence imprisonment. The next time they try to lay their greedy hands upon our fatherland, they will have a real hard time. Nagas beware!! The fox is lurking around our beloved fatherland!!

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
•  &nb sp;   Yes we are always ready for funds and projects, but Is the foreign investors ready to invest in nagaland? Even If Bill Gates' Microsoft invest in Nagaland, they may go bankrupt within a few years. . Gates will lend up in a mental asylum and saying aloud to himself 'arre, i have invested millions and milions of $s but roads still have potholes, some areas dnt have roads, no electricity in many remote areas, no tourist, no educational and health care centre..no IT development, forget IT and microsoft, they dont even know me.. All i saw in Nagaland was many SUVs, bmws, mercedes and big palatial buildings in some areas.. Boo hoo.. Nagas are still headhunters..they have cut my head. Sob sob..
•    Creative industry!! That's where we can excel and attract foreign investors..but then who will be responsible for providing a conducive atmosphere in the state?
•    Until Nagaland Government can guarantee safety no large scale developer will come to Nagaland. I would say Nagaland can be developed.
•    What do foreign investors see when they look at nagaland? when it comes to technological and allied industries, the only thing that may attract them to invest here is comparatively cheaper labour, which is good for them but not good enough....they need to know that their investment is safe and profitable. As for setting up factories and plants for technological production, they will require large areas of land too, and not just anywhere, land with satisfactory access to transport and communication facilities like good roads and they want it near the cities with easy access to the raw-materials.can we give those? The govt cant even get land to lay railway tracks up to Kohima. The investors dont want any trouble with the local inhabitants- remember the TATA company having to shift its NANO production plant? They dont want that kind of trouble. And how do we guaranty their profit?
•    What industries are we looking at investors and why? Is it for funding or is it for knowledge assistance? An investor will invest obviously to have some economic gain, so what will the percentage of profit be for them? Will the government protect their investments when they are usually unable to protect even the minuscule investments by locals? Why is investment from a foreigner better then from those in our own country? I think these are pertinent questions to ask first before we invite others to invest with us. BOTTOM LINE IS, NO ONE WILL INVEST UNLESS THEY BENEFIT AS WELL, SO WHAT ARE WE RELINQUISHING OR WILLING TO SHELL OUT BEFORE WE WELCOME THEM? For certain industries such as Tourism I think a calculated investment is ready, not to replicate what exists completely but to create something that is exclusively ours, but tie up with them as stakeholders to make sure we have enough visitors sent by them to sustain our growing industry. As for Agriculture and allied industries, this is more complex as we certainly do not want to become an experimental ground for them nor do we want to miss out on an opportunity to ensure export oriented products are developed. How many countries have our policy makers visited ( and continue to do so) in the past 2 decades, even to places where we have nothing similar to even consider trade, all at the expense of funds which might have been used for building the basic infrastructure required for local entrepreneurs? And if they go, how many actual entrepreneurs or officials who are from the departments and will be supervising the projects actually attend these trips? What kind of workshops do they conduct when they come back from these state funded trips? Why are we the people giving up our funds to bear their expenses?? If they were covering the trips on their own, who are we to stop them, but more often then not, it is all a cover up for a paid holiday... Having your 1 day meeting is not enough to cover your one week trip? Can the government at least let the public know what workshops have been publicized and attended by people to learn from the knowledge they gained from their trips. Sorry may have digressed a little from the topic, but the point is, in seeking these investors, how much are we really spending with no results at all??? A reality check is required to look at nations and states closer to us who might actually cost less to visit and are doing some amazing developments instead, if seeking foreign investment is a necessity. Instead of only looking at investors to come in, what might be better is to actually hire some experienced person to come stay in Nagaland and actually teach our society with the skills required to build that industry. So all these trips for a number of people can be converted to pay for a good, successful and renowned consultant to come live here and impart knowledge. That way, society really benefits physically and not just on paper.
•    One area where we might look at investment from developed nations is environment protection and alternative energy usage. We in Nagaland are not giving enough importance to this. The fact that only 2% of the world's drinking water is apparently potable and that our resources are fast depleting should be a trigger for the current generation to stop being selfish and rectify wasteful methods, like yesterday, so that our children will have something for the future. Why is the government not asking companies who have tapped these alternative resources to come explore and invest in these areas??? Think wind and solar energy to start with. These will be a part of future infrastructure building....
•    Well, jumping from one to twenty levels is quite weird & unimaginable. What do we, as an under-develop state, have to offer to the foreign investors? Normally, business people do not invest blindly. It is smart t...o learn from others example but was there a thorough study? Are the domestic industries here ready to compete? To my knowledge, our domestic firms & industries hardly exist. We are still at struggling stage. Just easy flow of money with foreign investors is not going to solve the problems here. What happen to our ancient saying of doing & solving things at one-step at a time? Firstly, give the benefits & opportunities to our local business to grow. Aren’t they more important for a democratic government? I think for a foreign investment to be successful, we should at least have the following- Availability of raw material, Availability of cheap labour, Cheap production Cost, & Ready market?? In addition, mind you, foreign investment is not going to solve the employment problem. Is our people ready with advanced managerial and technical know how? Rare! I would say that our government is taking a rather bold unknown step!
•    FII''s are leeches. Once they suck all the blood, they will dump everything and leave the victim to bleed to death. The reason why our politicians do not want the PSU's to take over the Oil exploration and production is that they won't get a share of the pie. But my dear politicians, i tell u that there is the hefty royalty which u can pry on. Let the PSU's come so that our people can get permanent employment and also the infrastructure in the rural areas can also be improved to a greater extend, and Corporate social responsibility, which is a new mantra, actively followed nowadays will greatly benefit the people of the areas.
•    even though our own CM is trying his best 2 woo investors, sadly even in the agri sector supply is not meeting the demand. eg, how many truckloads of pineapples goes out through nagaland gate annually to indian run companies,s ay dabur. foreign investor will demand more. are we ready to supply in terms of tonnes n tonnes of our agri products.
•    From the investor's perspective, it's a lot like renting an apartment? Ask yourself this. Would I rent a place which has a leaky roof, clogged toilets, no electricity or water, bullet ridden walls and smashed in d oors?
•    Now if the apartment owner expects the tenant to renovate the apartment, the owner better be prepared to see a much modified apartment with quite undesired changes!
•    I have a big reservation to the different initiative that are being taking place between government of Nagaland and foreign investors. I'm afraid Nagas may become slave of these investors. frankly our Nagas are still not far sighted. I'm afraid we may become slave in our own land.
