Nagaland: 147 cases disposed on Lok Adalat Day

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 14 (MExN): Legal Services Institutions across Nagaland State today disposed 147 cases as part of the nationwide observance of National Lok Adalat Day.
11 Lok Adalat sitting benches were constituted by the District Legal Services Authorities in the respective District Headquarters. The sitting was organizedby the High Court Legal Services Committee at the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench with Justice Nani Tagia as the presiding officer along with the Conciliators Neiko Akami, Registrar, Gauhati High Court; Kekhriengulie, Assistant Advocate General; and Kezhokhoto Savi,Advocate.
In total, 677 disputes/cases were listed, of which 147 were resolved with a settlement sum of Rs 99,41,305. The settlement amount consisted of mutually agreed payments between the litigants, alongwith fine money, bank recovery money, money suits, compensation money, etc.
A press release issued by the Lok Adalat Wing, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, stated that the Lok Adalat forum has been gaining popularity through wide publicity, awareness, participation and awakening of legal consciousness among the people.
Lok Adalat is not at a substitute to the present justice dispensation system, but rather a complimentary component to achieve speedy justice and a binding resolution.
