Kohima, June 8 (MExN): One-day state level orientation workshop on the Operationalisation of Health & Wellness Centre (HWCs) under Ayushman Bharat initiative at the Conference Hall of Hotel Vivor, Kohima on June 8.
The workshop was conducted by the Department of Health & Family Welfare in collaboration with Developmental Partner Jhpiego-a nonprofit global health leader affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University that works towards “saving lives, improving health and transforming futures.”
It was stated in a press release that through this workshop, the state aims to roll out Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) services through up-gradation of existing health facilities into HWCs across the state.
First phase of implementation
In the first phase of implementation, the State Government of Nagaland would be upgrading 56 sub-centres to Health and Wellness centres (HWCs) and not only that Government of India have selected 2 PHCs in Kiphire among the 115 aspiration Districts in the country to be activated as HWCs and all the 5 Urban PHCs will also be upgraded to HWCs in the State.
The workshop touched upon the key elements of CPHC and HWCs include ensuring continuum of care; providing an expanded service delivery; expanding diagnostics and new technologies; promoting health through community mobilization; creating robust IT systems and partnering for knowledge. These centres will be equipped with a specialized team including a specially qualified Mid – Level Provider and other health workers who will be trained with additional multiple skills for efficient healthcare delivery. The Mid-Level providers will be trained through a six - month bridge course developed by IGNOU.
Need for newer and holistic approach
Addressing the district and state officials of Department of Health & Family Welfare during the Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW) I. Himato Zhimomi called upon the health service providers in the State for a newer and holistic approach on health issues.
Himato emphasized on the emerging need of introduction on concept of wellness apart from health. He also envisaged concentrated efforts to be made towards improvement of mental, social and spiritual well-being of the society which in turn will improve the economic productivity and quality of life for the Naga people.
Dr. Kevichusa, Mission Director, NHM reiterated on the need for continuum of care for chronic NCD diseases beside the RMNCH+A services and urged the officials present to support the initiative for successful implementation of HWCs.
State senior Program officials also expressed gratitude towards Jhpiego for extending their technical support in operationalization of HWCs and roll out of Bridge Program in the state.
