The winners of CEDOK Inter School Competition 2023 with special guests.

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 15 (MExN): The Commission for Education, Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) organised an inter-school literary and cultural competitions for Catholic schools in Nagaland with Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima and Charles Nosazol, State Information Commissioner, Nagaland, as special guests.
Altogether, 500 students from 38 Catholic schools participated in the two-day event held at Holy Cross Hr Sec School, Dimapur on October 11 and 12. The participants were divided into categories of juniors (Classes 5-7), intermediates (Classes 8-10) and seniors (Classes 11-12).
Participants from all the three categories competed in solo, duet and drawing competition, besides the juniors participating in story-telling, intermediates in prepared speech, seniors in extempore speech. Open to all was the fancy dress competition.
The competitions, besides providing opportunities for students to compete with their counterparts from all over the state, facilitated interaction to enrich themselves with new experiences, knowing each other and making friends, a press release issued by Rev Fr Dr Jacob Charalel, secretary CEDOK informed.
Children, especially from Eastern Nagaland were very excited and enthusiastic in participating in the events, as it gave them wonderful experience coming to Dimapur and seeing the progress taking place in the state. And even though they had to spend long hours on road, some of them even up to 16 hours, to reach the venue, it did not dampen their spirit, the press release stated.
The prize distribution function was held at Holy Cross Auditorium with various folk songs, folk dances and cultural items performed by the participating schools. While all the participants were given certificates of participation, the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) were awarded with certificate of merit, memento and cash prizes.
Speaking on the occasion, Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima reminded the students that the competitions are held to provide them opportunities to come together, know each other, learn from each other and grow together to build up unity among various tribes of Nagaland.
As children are present from urban and rural, rich and poor backgrounds, he told the children that the wealth of the world is sufficient for the need of all but not for the greed of all. Hence, they should learn to share with each other to build up an equalitarian society. He also hailed the role of teachers in sacrificing their own comforts to build up a progressive society.
Charles Nosazol, State Information Commissioner, in his message, exhorted the students to grab every opportunity given to them, especially events like inter school competitions, and learn something useful and meaningful for their life. He asked the students to work hard since very often; hard work bears better result and success than the talents.
CEDOK also gave away its Teacher’s Award 2023 on the occasion. Five teachers, namely, Hubert Monohrü Aba from St Mary Cathedral Hr Sec School, Kohima; O. Tsilong from St John Hr Sec School, Tuensang; Sosinle Kent from Don Bosco School, Tseminyu; Echanthung Ezung from St Peter’s School, Longsa; and Margaret Dangmei from St Xavier Hr Sec School, Jalukie, were awarded with certificates of merit and cash award for their exceptional and dedicated services done in the field of education.
