Nagaland CM, NNagaDAO condole demise of Dr Joyce Zinyü Angami

Kohima, Dec ember 12 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio expressed grief over the demise of Dr Joyce Zinyü Angami, former president of the Nagaland State Medical Council and Director of Kripa Foundation.

Dr Angami passed away on December 11 after a brief illness.

In a condolence message, Rio described Dr Angami as a “sincere and compassionate medical doctor” who dedicated her life to public welfare, particularly for marginalised sections of society.

He noted that throughout her career, she worked tirelessly for people living with HIV and AIDS, advocating strongly against their stigmatisation. She championed community engagement to eliminate negative attitudes, superstitious beliefs, and discriminatory practices, he said.

“The medical fraternity and the general public of Nagaland have lost a pillar. The void left by her will be difficult to fill,” Rio stated.

The CM said that while her passing is mourned, her life and her selfless deeds to uplift Naga society should be celebrated.

Rio extended his condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of his own family. “It is my heartfelt prayer that her legacy of goodness and service will continue to inspire future generations,” he said.

The CM prayed for strength and solace for the family and for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

NNagaDAO: In a statement, NNagaDAO said Dr Angami was widely respected for her significant contributions to the state's response to HIV and AIDS, drug use disorder, child care, and health services.

“At NNagaDAO, her contributions were immense and foundational. She was a guiding force whose wisdom, empathy, and vision shaped our mission,” the organisation said.

It highlighted that her lifelong dedication to drug use disorder and HIV programs transformed countless lives and strengthened support systems for the most vulnerable.

“Her advocacy and tireless service brought hope to individuals and families facing some of the most difficult circumstances,” NNagaDAO added.

The organisation stated that her demise marks the loss of a dynamic social worker, healer, advocate, and mentor, which is an immense loss to the state and the marginalised communities she served for decades.

“Her memory will continue to live on in the programs she helped build and the communities she empowered. Her spirit of service will guide us as we carry forward her work,” NNagaDAO concluded.
