Marking the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser and Ministry of Culture, Government of India in association with Vigyan Prasar celebrated weeklong Festival of Science & Technology -Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate from February 22 to28. 

In Nagaland, over 500 students from different schools in Kohima attended the Festival which was hosted by Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC) under the Department of Science & Technology.

The nationwide weeklong festival focused the achievements of science and technology over the 75 years that inspire the youth and help them navigate into building a progressive nation.

‘Festival of SCoPE for All’ (Science Communication Popularization & its Extension) in coinciding with National Science Day marked the conclusion of the event at Science & Technology Complex, Kohima on February 28.

The valedictory function was attended by Sachin Chandrakumar Narwadiya, Scientist D of Vigyan Prasar, DST, GoI as the special guest. Narwadiya highlighted the essence and significance of National Science Day, which is celebrated all over India. He spoke on the opportunities of national and international scholarships in science and technology that the students and scholars can avail from the government and other funding agencies.

Dr Shardul Wagh, HoD of Biochemistry, Kamala Nehru Maha Vidyalaya, Nagpur, Maharashtra was the resource person of the day. He highlighted the achievements and contributions of various prominent scientists of India. He lamented on the poor representation of women in science and the dismal number of students taking up science as a career.

Students from Little Flower Higher Secondary School Kohima enthralled the audience with their street play on various renowned scientists of India who has made tremendous contributions in the field of Science & Technology.

Wonchio Odyuo, Additional Secretary & Director, DST, GoN in his valedictory speech encouraged the participants to utilize their skills and knowledge for the progress and development of the country.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions that were held during the weeklong festival. The last day of the event also witnessed Book Fair.

Earlier on February 27, Dr Somnath Goshal from IIT Kharakpur as the resource person spoke through virtual mode on the theme “The road ahead for next 25 years of Indian Science & Technology.” He stressed on the need of improving various sectors of the country such as information, communication & technology, agriculture, education, implementation of schemes etc. and how this would help the progress of the country.

Mentionably, in concurrence with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) and Ministry of Culture, Government of India in association with Vigyan Prasar, celebrated February 22-28 as the glorious week called Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate, which means science and technology is revered all over. The event was jointly organised by DST, DBT, CSIR, MoES, DAE, DOS, ICMR, AICTE and DRDO.

In Nagaland, the festival was marked by film show, poster exposition, series of competition on science, science literature festival, laboratory visit, etc. It was also marked by various theme like “From Annals of history of science,” “Milestones of modern science & technology,” “Science, technology and innovation for self reliance/Atmanirbar Bharat” and “The road ahead for next 25 years of Indian Science & Technology.”
