The Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2020 was introduced on the floor of the House.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio moved for introduction of this Bill at the 7th session of 13th NLA here on February 15.
NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer informed that the consideration and passing this bill will be taken up on February 16.
In a statement of objects and reasons, Rio stated that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been implemented with effect from 1 July 2017.
The GST consists of two components, namely, the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST).
The Central Government has amended the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017 through Finance Act (No. 12) of 2020 and has requested State Governments to make corresponding amendments in the respective State Goods and Services Tax Act.
As the Legislative Assembly was not in session and the matter was urgent, the Governor of Nagaland, in exercise of powers conferred under clause (1) of Article 213 of the Constitution of India, promulgated the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Fourth Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 on 22 December, 2020 which was notified in the Nagaland Gazette Extraordinary, Rio stated.
The chief minister stated that the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2020 will make the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 more comprehensive and trade friendly.
