IS THE NAGALAND GOVERNMENT TAKING ADEQUATE MEASURES TO TACKLE THE RISING CRIME IN OUR SOCIETY?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• Yes, but only for themselves and the big people who are in power.
• Yes, To some extent the police force has become more active. There are some dedicated men and women who are doing some commendable job as far as security is concerned. But unless the system changes I don’t think they can do much.
• Yes, we see some improvement with the Nagaland police solving some cases of murder and robbery. Such actions need to be applauded.
• The younger generation of police officers seem to be more dedicated in their work. The government should provide them with proper training and resources in tackling crime.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• No, Rule of law is practically absent because of weak political leadership. In Singapore has, for example, people are scared to commit violate even traffic law because politicians there have stood for strict enforcement crimes…
• No way, when they are corrupted themselves to the core and busy siphoning the public money when will they have the time to tackle it? A biggest NO!
• How can the government be serious about tackling crime when they themselves are involved in breaking the law?
• On contrary.. the anti-social elements are taking adequate measures controlling the govt admins!!!
• Nagaland government lacks political will therefore nothing is adequate. It takes a balls of steel to come to a firm decision. I guess that's what is missing.
• Not at all. Ours is not a large state compared to others and if we look at the percentage of crime committed, and the rise of crime, especially against women, it is in a total state of dysfunction. Open the papers and we read of the extortions, the rapes and murders, the findings of contraband and so the list goes on, but except for associations condemning it, how many I wonder goes unnoticed, just because people are discouraged to file charges or don't bother as they know the outcome of indifference beforehand. Yes, we have some members of the police force who are doing their best to maybe beat the system, but many of them turn a blind eye. From personal experience, we are told to forgive and forget, just because they do not want the hassle of doing their jobs. I am still waiting for the results of an FIR filed against a government department for operations of an incident in 2011, even with 2 follow up inquiries as a result of answers provided by another government department for an RTI that was applied. We think that crime is about civil society alone, but more often than not, the biggest crimes are committed by those in power and if they cannot be liable then how can there not be a rise in crime. When a few of those in power are brought to justice, then only will people be not afraid or disillusioned to fight against crime. The government (in this case policy makers, since they decide and dictate almost all that make bureaucrats their puppets) has taken a sabbatical for more than a decade in trying to resolve issues and instead washes their hands off or makes civil society organisations fight, take the fall or blame and have them try to come up with solutions. If they were not elected to resolve problems by shouldering responsibility, what the hell are they in power for? There must be an effective mechanism created that will make all these crimes from the big to the small answerable.
• They are all in all selfish and aims at their own gain rather than the common public or Nagas.
• No, how can criminal persecute criminals?
• No, No monitoring mechanism.
• No, the police department is not organized in a professional way to deal with organized criminals acts. Also the police personnel are not well trained enough. We lack forensic investigation and the attitude of chaltai hai is not helping either.
• No, Govt. of Nagaland has no manpower.
• No rule and regulation for the change. Therefore, change will never come.
• No, as when a case arises against the rich, affluent & high profile person's, the process of justice is delayed.
• No the government of nagaland is not active in tackling the rising crimes
• No, to decrease the crime rate in Nagaland, everything cannot be left to the police department alone, the judiciary also needs to do their part. The police is nabbing suspects but the judiciary is letting them go or in most cases not taking appropriate action against them. At this rate how can crimes be solved.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• NLG is confused ministry. It cannot distinguish between crime and natural activity.
• They said that they will bring peace but where is peace in our society till today always extortion, taxation only.
• What does the word crime mean to the government of Nagaland. I really don't understand if you would agree. What are we seeing every day around us or in any part of the state? Is it not a crime that we see every day in newspaper, the molestation, rape, murder, thief, extortion, taxation, etc. What do you think, could be more of a crime than these. Have we seen any justice yet to the murder of late Nungshilila in Dimapur? Is it forgotten or the forensic science couldn't be able to show the result of what the government of Nagaland wanted.
