Nagaland launches Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign

Announces mass cleanliness drive in 212 CTUs in Nagaland

Joining the rest of the country, Nagaland today launched 10th edition Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign in a function held at Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima. The Campaign will be carried out throughout the state.

In Kohima, it will be carried out through the joint collaboration of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban and Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen, Nagaland alongwith Kohima Municipal Council.

Marking the official launching, E. Mhonbemo Patton, principal secretary PHED, Nagaland sought the support of each and every individuals and all the stakeholders for the success of the campaign.

He recalled that Swachhta Hi Seva was launched on 15th August 2014 by Prime Minister.

“A lot of efforts have been put in place to spread that sanitation is everyone's business,” he said.

He appealed all the stakeholders, ULBs, Village councils and all the citizens of the state to join the campaign.

Kekhrievor Kevichiisa, commissioner & secretary for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Nagaland informed that mass cleanliness drive will be carried out in 212 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) in Nagaland during the campaign.

He said that Swachhata Hi Seva is an annual fortnight long cleanliness campaign, which usually start from 2nd week of September and culminating on October 2.

Swachhata Hi Seva aims to raise awareness about cleanliness and hygienic through community participation with the theme “Cleanliness of Nature, Cleanliness of our Culture, he said.

Keeping with this theme, the State Steering Committee has decided to mark this year’s Swachhata Hi Seva campaign through three innovative approaches.

The first approach is to adopt “Moi Laga Jabrah, Moi Laga Kaam” (My Waste, My Responsibility)” with community participation in cleanliness drive. 

The second approach is by adopting Lao-ong Mo festival of the Konyak tribe on September 28, which is a part of harvest celebration and is observed by cleaning footpath by the community

The Committee also decided to prolong the campaign till November 30 in Nagaland to coincide with the start of Hornbill festival.

Kevichiisa said that Swachhata Hi Seva is part of Swachh Bharat Mission, which aims to eliminate open defecation, create Open defecation free villages and improve both solid and liquid waste management.

He administered Swachhata pledge to the gathering.

During the formal launching programme, a short video on Swachhata Hi Seva campaign with a message of Nagaland’s urban development & municipal affairs advisor Zhaleo Rio was also screened. 

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) chairperson Neikhozo Suokhrie also present at the function.

Later, cleanliness drive took place at Nagaland Civil secretariat campus.

Meanwhile, a mass cleanliness drive will take place at Kisama on September 18 from 7:00 AM onwards.
