
Training-cum-workshop for schools in Phek Phek, September 25 (MEXN): Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO), Phek has informed all concerned that there will be training-cum-workshop on 'Students' Data collection in sync with UDISE 2016' on September 29 for Meluri Block and on September 30 for Chozuba, Phek and Pfutsero Blocks. The training coincides with National UDISE Day, which is observed on September 30. In a press release, the DDEO, Nuchisalu Nienu stated that it is compulsory for all the Principals, Headmasters, Head Teachers, and Teachers In-charge of both private and government schools to attend the training-cum-workshop. BAMS Phek organizes Cultural-cum-Literary Day Phek, September 25 (MExN): With an objective to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of different communities studying in the School, and also to create awareness among the students about the need to preserve their rich cultural heritage, Bishop Abraham Memorial School (BAMS), Phek organized Cultural-cum-Literary Day on September 23-24 at Town Hall, Phek with Dr. Katoni Jakhalu, Principal, Phek Government College as the chief guest. Dr. Katoni lauded the school for organising such co-curriculum activities, which she said, will act as a platform for the students to expose their talents and enhance their social skills and team spirit, informed a press release from Ase-o, Assistant Teacher, BAMS, Phek. She inspired the students through a story of the ancient Greek philosopher – Socrates. Drawing lesson from the story, Dr. Katoni stated that the secret to success is to have a burning desire to achieve something in life just like a burning desire for air to breathe when under water. She urged the students not to be discouraged by setbacks but rather learn from the mistakes and inspire one another to overcome obstacles. She further stressed on the necessity and importance of patience and perseverance in a student’s life. The inaugural programme included scripture reading by Mercy, invocation of God’s blessing and introductory words by Rev. Fr. Patrick Neikhalo, Principal of Bishop Abraham Memorial School, Phek; action song by UKG students, cultural dance by class 7B, Isle of Hope and Isle of Tears (a special number) by class 9B students. Competitions were held on folk song, cultural show, choir, instrumental piece, prepared speech, declamation, skit, dance, debate, quiz, etc. Counselling service in Nagaland: Special lecture held Kohima, September 25 (MExN): St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama in collaboration with SCERT held a special lecture on ‘Counselling service in Nagaland’ on September 24 at the conference hall of SCERT, Kohima. Over hundred students who are doing certificate course in Guidance and Counseling (UGC approved) participated in the special lecture delivered by Dr. Zavise Rume, Associate Professor, SCERT, Nagaland, informed a press release from Fr. C. Joseph, Counsellor, St. Joseph's College, Jakhama. Dr. Zavise covered range of topics like Philosophical and historical background of counselling, History of counselling in India, North East and Nagaland, Need of counselling in Nagaland, Approaches to counselling, Comprehensive approach to school counselling, Basic skills of school counseling etc. Students were encouraged to learn and get trained to be professional counsellors in near future, the press release said. Further, it expressed hope that such lecture will be useful for those who take up the profession of teaching, social work etc., and may be good for one’s own personal development too. Everyone in the programme felt the need of counselling service in Nagaland, it was stated.
