Central Institute of Horticulture, Nagaland organised a training programme on ‘Vegetable Production Technology’ for the women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of Punglwa B village under Peren district on March 3. Altogether 60 women farmers from six different SHGs in the village attended the training. The resource persons provided in-depth knowledge on improved vegetable cultivation practices, soil management, organic fertilizers, integrated pest control and post-harvest management. The interactive session allowed farmers to discuss challenges faced in vegetable farming and receive expert guidance on best practices. Speaking at the event, Meribeni Shitiri, Horticulture Specialist, emphasised the significance of empowering women farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
District level launch of Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) for notified facilities and orientation on gestational diabetes mellitus for health workers was held at conference hall, Chief Medical Officer’s office Wokha on March 4. Dr Thungchanbemo Ezung, Chief Medical Officer Wokha in the opening remark said that the objective of SUMAN is to achieve zero preventable maternal and new born deaths, provide dignified and quality health care for women and new born. Dr Chonbenthung Ezung, Medical Officer, Yimpang Primary Health Centre was the resource person. Session on gestational diabetes mellitus was taken by Dr BenchumiHumtsoe, Medical Officer (Obs & Gynae) District Hospital Wokha. Mhonbeni Ezung, District Programme Manager (NHM) took session on Ante Natal Check up and high risk pregnancy. Medical officers, community health officers, ANMs and staff nurses from various health centres in the district attended the programme. World Hearing Day was observed at the Government Middle School, Samziuram Sec-A, Peren on March 3. Dr Zhoveyo Vero, ENT Surgeon outlined common causes of hearing loss and the signs to watch for in children. He discussed the 4P’s of hearing loss—Progressive, Painless, Permanent, and Preventable—and provided preventive measures.A free health screening session was conducted for the children. A total of 96 children were screened, and those diagnosed with hearing-related ailments were provided with the necessary medications. The programme was led by Dr Zhoveyo Vero and Dr Ihube, Medical Officer from District Hospital Peren, in collaboration with the RBSK team. Phek District observed ‘World Hearing Day’ at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalaya a residential girl’s hostel, Phek Town on March 3. Dr Avono Medoze, MO RBSK highlighted the rising cases of hearing loss, especially among the young people due to excessive headphone usage. She emphasized on the safe listening habits, early intervention and breaking the stigma around the hearing impairment. Hearing screening camp was conducted for the students. Necessary medicines were provided and cases needing further care were referred to higher health facilities. Pamphlets on various ear and hearing health were handed out. The programme was attended by Koni School Health Program Coordinator RBSK, Neikhrote Puro Project Assistant/Hostel Coordinator, Merhilo Khutso Office Asst. and Votalu Luruo Warden.ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) training programme on ‘Modern Hygienic Handling Practices of Fish and its Value Addition’ is underway at panchayat hall, Bade Village, Chümoukedima from March 3 to 7. The resource persons are Dr MV Sajeev, Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer NEH, Dr V Geethalaksmi, Principal Scientist, Dr PK Binsi, Senior Scientist, Dr K Sarika, Scientist and Prasanna Kumar, Technical Officer from ICAR-CIFT. A total of 61 fish farmers of Bharathimanaco Nagaland are attending the training. Equipments and materials for setting up small fish processing unit were provided to the farmers, said Rakesh Hojaisa, Director of Bharathimanaco Nagaland.In the past few days, the Dimapur District Excise Department made surprise raids on shops and counters selling Liquor. During the operation, 869 bottles of assorted IMFL/Beer were seized. Altogether, 14 offenders were arrested and penalised under relevant sections of the NLTP Act, 1989. Informing this in a press release, Limatemsu Changkiri, Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur also stated that the department will continue to conduct such raids and strict actions will be taken against all offenders. Further, all citizens have been urged to refrain from engaging in illegal liquor activities and cooperate with the authorities.The Inner Wheel Club of Dimapur extended relief to the fire-affected families of Naga Gaon in Signal Basti, Dimapur. The club provided essential kitchen requirements, including saucepans, serving spoons, kerosene stoves, clothing plates, eatables and other necessities. In the second session, Langnyei I Phom, Assistant Professor, Department of History) presented on the topic ‘Roman Culture’. The programme attended by 32 faculties.
