A new representative has to be elected within a period of six months from the date of occurrence of the vacancy
Kohima, October 8 (MExN): The 26-Aonglenden (ST) Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district has been officially declared vacant with effect from September 23.
Commissioner & Secretary, NLA, N Benjamin Newmai in a notification has informed that in the demise of Imtikumzuk, the Member of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 26- Aonglenden A/C on September 22, the Constituency seat has become vacant with effect from September 23.
Referred to as 'casual vacancies' under 'The Representation of the People Act, 1951' a bye-election for filling the seat "shall be held within a period of six months from the date of the occurrence of the vacancy."
Accordingly, a new representative has to be elected from the 26- Aonglenden A/C before March 23, 2019 - the end of the six-month period since the seat was declared vacant.
