DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): The National Oral Health Programme under Dimapur District observed World Oral Health Day at Government Middle School, Dimapur Town under the theme ‘A happy mouth is a happy body’ on March 20. 

Dr Reyosalu Lase Vizo, District Nodal Officer for National Tobacco Control Programme Dimapur while delivering the keynote address sensitized the students on maintaining dental hygiene to prevent building up of bacteria that can damage the teeth enamels, gums and roots allowing cavity and decaying to occur. She further stated that our mouth is the gateway to our body and whatever we eat affects our body. Therefore, we must reduce intake of sugar and sugary products and abstain from using tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. The small act of brushing our teeth twice a day is one of the simplest and easiest ways to maintain good oral health and keep away many unwanted illness, she highlighted. 

Dr Limatula Aier, CMO Dimapur also reiterated the importance of brushing one’s teeth twice a day which is easy and doable. She further expressed her appreciation towards the students for their participation in the essay writing and poster making competitions held on the day’s theme. She also urged the students to take home the message on the importance of brushing twice a day to maintain good oral health and disseminate the information to their families and friends.

During the programme, certificates, prizes and cash awards were given to the winners of the competitions. The students also took a pledge to keep their oral health clean and hygienic and abstain from tobacco use. All the students in the school were given a toothbrush and toothpaste. 

The programme was chaired by Dr N Moa Jamir, District Nodal Officer, National Oral Health Programme while welcome address and closing remarks were delivered by Sentiamong, Head Teacher and Aren Imsong, Teacher respectively.

Under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) Nagaland, the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Health & Family Welfare department today observed World Oral Health Day 2024 under the theme “A happy mouth is a happy body” at Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School Kohima.

Under the aegis of NHM Nagaland, the National Tobacco Control Programme, Health & Family Welfare department observed World Oral Health Day 2024 at Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima  on March 20.

World Oral Health Day aims to empower people with the knowledge, tools and confidence to secure good oral health. Oral diseases are a major health concern for many countries and negatively impact people throughout their lives. 

Oral diseases lead to pain and discomfort, social isolation and loss of self-confidence, and they are often linked to other serious health issues. Most oral health conditions are largely preventable and can be treated in their early stages. 

On the occasion, Dr Arenla Walling, Joint Director & SNO NTCP talked on harmful effects of tobacco.

Dr Meribeni Odyuo, Director (Dental) talked on the significance of the theme. The programme was led by KBHSS headmistress Rokokhono Miachieo while vote of thanks was proposed by KBHSS principal Chathavituo Kesiezie.

PUNGRO: Christian School in Pungro along with the Community Health Centre (CHC) Pungro, led by Dental Surgeon Dr Weri Mero, hosted an oral health awareness camp to observe World Oral Health Day 2024 on the theme "A happy mouth is a happy body" on March 19. 

A press note issued by the Chief medical officer (CMO) Kiphire office informed that in addition to dental examinations, fluoride treatment to prevent cavities, and tooth extractions and temporary fillings, many patients were examined during the awareness camp.

Christian School in Pungro along with the Community Health Centre (CHC) Pungro, led by Dental Surgeon Dr Weri Mero, hosted an oral health awareness camp to observe World Oral Health Day 2024 on the theme "A happy mouth is a happy body" on March 19. 

On the occasion, Dr Mero gave a presentation on dental hygiene, emphasizing its significance in preserving general health advantages. He also emphasized the negative impacts of using tobacco products, particularly in relation to smoking and chewing gutkha. 

The oral health camp, according to the CMO office, was held to inform the public and schools about the value of maintaining good dental hygiene and oral health, with the understanding that gum disease in particular can raise the risk of major health issues.

MOKOKCHUNG: Along with the rest of the world, the National Oral Health Programme (NOHP) Mokokchung observed the World Oral Heath Day on March 20 under the theme “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Body” at Government High School, Mokokchung Village.

On the occasion of the World Oral Heath Day, a poster and essay competition was held with students of Government High School, Mokokchung Village by the National Oral Health Programme (NOHP) Mokokchung. Certificate and cash prizes were awarded to the winners and the participants. 

During a short observation programme, theme speaker Dr K Tiasenla, Dental Surgeon, IMDH highlighted on the importance of maintaining  a healthy mouth and its  benefit for the body. She also advised the students to stay away from chewing of harmful tobacco substances like pan masala and smoking as it leads to harmful diseases.

Based on the theme, a poster and essay competition was also held among the school students. Imlinaro of class 10 and Putisenla of class 8 bagged the 1st position in essay competition and poster competition respectively. The winners were awarded with certificate and cash prize.
