Kohima, May 8
Nagaland joined the rest of the world in observing World Red Cross Day across the state under the theme “Through Humanity to Peace” on May 8.
In the state capital Kohima, Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan graced the occasion at Red Cross Complex, organised by Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch.
Ganesan, who is also president of IRCS, Nagaland state branch, acknowledged Red Cross family of Nagaland.
“Your dedication, selfless sacrifices and relentless service in times of crisis embody the very essence of humanity,” he said.

Whether braving the aftermath of natural calamities, reaching remote villages cut off by landslides or providing solace to vulnerable communities, you have been a beacon of hope for countless lives, he said adding that their work is not merely a duty but a testament to the power of collective compassion.
Ganesan said that this year’s theme “urges us to reflect on what it truly means to be human in the face of adversity. In moments of crisis, we are stripped of superficial differences and what remains is our shared humanity. At the heart of this reflection lie three virtues: Hope, Empathy and Kindness.”
He said that “Hope is the light that guides us through darkness, the belief that tomorrow can be better. Empathy is the bridge that connects us to others’ pain, urging us to act. Kindness is the language even the broken hearted understand.”
The Governor maintained that Red Cross Society has always been a living embodiment of these values.
In Nagaland, where rugged terrain and isolation challenge accessibility, your efforts to extend aid to the farthest corners remind us that no one is too distant to be cared for, he said.

Governor made a clarion call to every citizen, and particularly the vibrant youth of Nagaland to join noble mission of service.
The challenges of our times-climate change, health crises and social inequity-demand not just institutional action but the energy and idealism of young hearts, he said.
Stating that youth are not just leaders of tomorrow but the change makers of today, he said “We must also recognize that building a compassionate society begins in our homes and schools.”
Earlier, Dr. R. Rose Chakhesang, MC Member, IRCSN, highlighted the theme of the day while welcome address was delivered by Jonas Yanthan, MC Member, IRCSN.
