Nagaland Olympics & Paralympic Games 2024: Kohima reaffirms dominance with triple crown, Chümoukedima rises

As the curtain closes on the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games (NOPG) 2024, the Kohima district reaffirms its dominance over others by securing the ‘Overall Champions’ title for the third consecutive time. According to the final tally updates from the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), Kohima secured the top position by winning 89 medals, comprising 35 Gold, 27 Silver, and 27 Bronze.

However, the emergence of Chümoukedima as a formidable sporting district was perceptible as it dislodged the previous edition runners-up Phek to the third position with an overall tally of 83 medals, including 24 gold, 28 silver, and 31 bronze.

Chümoukedima was placed 10th in the 2nd NOPG with 22 medals. With 64 medals (22 gold, 18 silver, and 24 bronze), Phek district was placed third.

In the fourth position was Dimapur, with a higher medal haul at 65 but a gold short of Phek at 21. This district also won 18 silver and 26 bronze. Longleng was placed at the bottom with 4 medals, while Tuensang had the second-lowest rank with 8 medals. Shamator, with 7 medals but with one gold and 2 silver, was placed third from the bottom.

Outstanding Sportspersons
Meanwhile, the prestigious ‘Outstanding Sportswoman’ title was conferred on Neshe Maonyu Konyak of Peren district. 

Just 13 years of age, she showcased remarkable talent in athletics, securing two gold medals in the 100m women’s category and the 4x400m mixed relay, with a notable time of 13.89s in the 100m sprint.

Lhangti Konyak representing Mon District was adjudged the ‘Outstanding Sportsman’ in recognition of his exceptional prowess in Sepaktakraw, the NOA informed.

Chümoukedima Wins Gold & Hearts
Apart from showing exceptional improvement in winning medals, Chümoukedima also won the hearts of the organizers and spectators by cleaning up the football ground after winning their final match against Peren on February 15. 

In recognition of exemplary sportsmanship and fair play, Chümoukedima district was honoured with the Olympic Fair Play Trophy, the NOA announced. 

The Longleng district, meanwhile, received the prestigious Spirit of Olympic Award, symbolizing the values of camaraderie, perseverance, and unity that define the essence of NOPG.

The closing function was graced by the Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, and Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang.
