Nagaland Pencak Silat Team Shines at national c’ship with 11 medals

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN):  The Nagaland Pencak Silat team triumphed with 11 medals at the 12th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship 2024, held from June 11-13 at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The medal haul in the individual category included a gold medal in Tanding (Match) by Hatneinem Khongsai, silver medals by Kevin, Hinokali, and Niya K. Thono, and bronze medals by Avikali V. Shequi, Jon, and Kitenlo K. Thono.

In the Artistic Event Creative Solo Male, Kevin won a silver medal. The Group Female Regu event saw Avikali V. Shequi, Hinokali, and Dausenliu Rentta securing a gold medal.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association (NPSA) expressed gratitude to the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for their financial support, which enabled the State contingent to participate and compete at the championship.

The State team was led by NPSA President Khevishe Sema and Head Coach Deep Kumar, along with Senior Referee Kuhoshe Chishi.

The event was organised by the Odisha Pencak Silat Association under the aegis of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation and Sports Authority of India. 

The championship saw participation from 28 Indian states and 6 Union Territories, with a total of 984 players, including 40 players from All India Police, CISF, SSB, and Assam Rifles, stated a press release the NPSA.
