DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11 (MExN): Nagaland was proudly represented by a team of 23 players, consisting of 12 girls and 11 boys, at the Yonex Sunrise North East Zone Inter State Badminton Championship 2024.
The tournament, which took place in Guwahati from the September 7 to 10, featured competitions in both Team Championships and Open categories, with singles and doubles events for senior and junior players. The team was accompanied by two officials, coach Tajenkaba Ao and manager R. Thsanso Yim.
The Nagaland players delivered outstanding performances throughout the tournament, winning multiple medals across different categories. In the Women’s Team Championship, Nagaland’s women’s team earned a bronze medal. The pair of Leimapokpam Diana and Huidrom Chanu Vilinda also secured a bronze in the Women’s Doubles event. In the Senior Mixed Doubles category, Peramrisi Zeliang and Debahuti Lahon impressed with their play and claimed a silver medal.
Among the juniors, N. Yohenba Singh took home the gold medal in the Under-19 Boys Singles event. The duo of Nchatu Herie and Bovi K. Chishi added to the team’s success by winning a bronze in the Under-19 Boys Doubles category. In the Under-19 Girls Doubles event, A. Ponlih Konyak and Imlikumla performed admirably, earning a silver medal.
The Nagaland Badminton Association has expressed great pride in the achievements of its players and commended them for their dedication and hard work throughout the tournament. The association also acknowledged the valuable support and guidance of the officials who accompanied the team.
