Nagaland Police engaging with CSOs in fight against drugs: DGP

Assuring it's commitment for ensuring a drug free Nagaland in line with the efforts of Government of India towards ensuring Drug Free India by 2047, Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma along with other police officers during a press conference at the Police headquarter Kohima today, said better investigation and prosecution and technology upgradation, besides a Canine Squad for crackdown into NDPS cases are being pursued relentlessly.

Nagaland Police is also engaging the civil society organisations and have opened the path for community participation in policing. AYO and ASU have given their assurance to help the Nagaland Police by providing independent witnesses for evidence collections to ensure that the offenders are convicted for the offences committed by them, Sharma informed. 

Meanwhile, police have requested public to extend help and remain cautious as it is easy for the traffickers to befool people into carrying drugs or allowing other measures for facilitating traffickers for instance bank accounts, vehicles, courier, courier services, keeping packets in other premises or vehicles etc either for money or otherwise can anyone conspirators. 

Nagaland Police has also initiated other steps on various fronts including public engagement, awareness campaigns, inter-departmental coordination.  Extensive use of technology and inter-state coordination for apprehending the persons involved in NDPS cases have yielded encouraging results.

Police Headquarters has ensured to strengthen the support group functioning at the headquarters which is not only catering the needs of its own Narcotic cell but also providing support to the District units of Nagaland Police. Manpower augmentation for investigation and operations has been undertaken and is being done continuously, the DGP stated.
