The Nagaland RMSA (Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan) Teachers’ Association-2016 on Monday appealed to the Nagaland State Government to comply with the Supreme Court's directive and give justice to the deserving teachers by implementing pay scale as directed by the Court.
Addressing a press conference at Kohima Press Club Office on June 15, Spokesperson of the Nagaland RMSA Teachers' Association-2016 (NRMSATA-2016), Renbemo L Patton said: "we want to make it clear that it has already been 4 years since we won the case on 16 March 2022, but the government is yet to implement the scale of pay for RMSA teachers."
NRMSATA-2016 President, Imlitemjen also cited the Court Order, which read, "In view of the aforesaid discussions, findings and decisions, this Court holds that the petitioners are entitled for scales of pay at Pay Band of Rs. 9300-34800/- with Grade Pay of Rs.4200/- p.m. Accordingly, it is directed the State respondents to grant such scales of pay to the petitioners forthwith."
While two cabinet sittings have been held so far in this connection, he however pointed out that with regard to implementation, there has been no order or clearance that has emerged from the meetings. "We have been serving the schools and societies with utmost sincerity", he added and urged the government to look into the issue and consider their demands.
While the teachers were on the streets for almost 3 weeks in 2025, NRMSATA-2016 Spokesperson, Renbemo L Patton noted that, as responsible teachers, they had kept the agitation in abeyance.
Stating that even after the dismissal of the review petition filed by the State Government on January 15 this year, he said the government is yet to implement or comply with the Court's directive.
He appealed to the State Government to comply with the Court's directive and give justice to the deserving teachers. "Let us avoid getting caught in the crossfire again", he said while also highlighting that the first phase of final examinations for Classes 8 and 9 are to be conducted later this month. "If the situation goes on like this and the state government is not complying to the Court's directive, it will have adverse effect on the students", he pointed out.
"We are not asking something out of the blue or what is beyond our reach but we are asking to give us what has rightfully been granted by the Supreme Court", he said.
NRMSATA-2016 Vice President, Bakon recalled that ever since the case was filed in the year 2018, 4-5 of their members have passed away. "What is the problem in the judgment? When are we going to get justice?" he questioned while asserting that, “we will do our duties, but it is high time, we have kept silent for a long time. They (government) have to take our issue seriously.”
