KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 13 (MExN): A total of 461 cases were settled during the 3rd Quarter National Lok Adalat (NLA) conducted across Nagaland on September 13 under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA). The total settlement amount stood at Rs 5, 62, 48,868.
Altogether 543 cases were taken up during the daylong sitting, of which 449 cases were settled at the pre-litigation stage and 12 cases at the pending stage. The majority of cases were related to bank loan recovery, telephone bill disputes, and Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases.
In Dimapur, the District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) conducted the Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, presided over by Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman, Longshithung Ezung, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, Atoka Achumi. More than 24 banks participated, along with MACT and BSNL. Out of 164 cases taken up, all were disposed of, with a total settlement of Rs 2, 41, 74,325. Kohima DLSA held its sitting at the District Court where 55 cases were taken up—40 bank recovery and 15 BSNL cases. All were disposed of, with settlements amounting to Rs 1, 28, 84,877.
The Phek DLSA organised its sitting at the District Court Complex, presided by District & Sessions Judge cum Chairperson, Duvelu Vero, with Retainer Lawyer Sekhotso Rokha, Chief LADC Vethothi Vero, and Deputy LADC Keneinuo Swuro as conciliators. A total of 59 pre-litigation bank recovery cases from SBI, Canara Bank and Co-operative Banks at Phek, Pfutsero, Chozuba, and Chizami were disposed of, resulting in a settlement of Rs 33, 09,556. At Kiphire, the DLSA held it’s Lok Adalat at SBI Pungro Branch, presided by Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, Holika Sukhalu. Out of 29 bank loan cases, 25 were resolved, with a settlement of Rs 42, 75,700. The proceedings were conducted in a cordial and conciliatory manner with cooperation from bank officials, litigants, and conciliators.
Mon DLSA conducted its Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex with District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman, Nokshei Kano, and Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, Wokono Yhoshii, as presiding officers. Panel lawyers acted as conciliators. Of the 39 pre-litigation bank recovery cases taken up, 11 were disposed of, with a settlement of Rs 17, 55,024. At Tuensang, the Lok Adalat was organised at SBI Longkhim, presided over by Principal District and Sessions Judge cum Chairman, Somet Chumden Chang, with Retainer Lawyer P. Herola and Panel Lawyer Ayangla as conciliators. Forty bank recovery cases were taken up, out of which 14 were disposed of, with a settlement of Rs 3, 69,900.

The Zunheboto DLSA held its sitting at the District Court Complex with District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman, Phuleto Yeptho, as presiding officer, assisted by conciliators Easter H Yepthomi and Vilibo K Zhimo. Of 15 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, 13 were disposed of, with settlements worth Rs 19, 02,123. At Wokha, the DLSA convened the Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex under District & Sessions Judge and Chairperson, Seyielenuo Mezhu. All 13 cases (12 pre-litigation bank recovery and one pending trial bank recovery) were disposed of, with settlements worth Rs 22, 24,621.
In Mokokchung, the DLSA conducted its sitting at the District Court, presided by Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, Julian Sithlou. A total of 14 bank loan recovery cases and one MACT case were taken up. Twelve bank recovery cases and one MACT case were resolved, resulting in settlements worth Rs 17, 12,418. At Peren, the Lok Adalat was organised at SBI Jalukie Branch, presided virtually by CJM-cum-Secretary, Atoka Achumi. Retainer Lawyer Italang Ramlia and panel lawyers Kewithinwang, Idosile, Indeu and Kidungyi Putlang acted as conciliators. Out of 25 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, 17 were disposed of, with settlements worth Rs 13, 97,500.
The Longleng DLSA held its Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex in collaboration with SBI Longleng Branch, presided by Secretary Kumdilong Kessen, with Retainer Lawyer Panglang Y Phom and Deputy LADC P Monyei Phom as conciliators. All 77 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were disposed of, with a settlement of Rs 19, 42,824. Leaflets on legal services and welfare schemes were also distributed during the proceedings.
