Stating that “we are a cognitive society and people with no written history,” Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor, School Education & SCERT on Saturday remarked that “singing is something very natural to us.” Addressing the second edition of Nagaland Catholic Choral Fiesta, the Triennial Diocesan Sacred Music Choral Competition at the Golden Jubilee Hall, Cathedral Kohima, he stated that “everything is through vocalisation.”

Towards this end, he also expressed pride that Nagas are doing extremely well in music while citing awards being won by Naga musicians even at the international level.

He said that the initiative of the Catholic Association of Nagaland in organising the Choral Fiesta in this regard, is ‘very important’. Further exuding hope that it will grow, he also stated hope that in the near future, it will not only involve the Catholic community but will become a platform for people from all over Nagaland and the North East to exhibit their musical talents.

“May we all continue to grow together,” he added.

He further acknowledged the Catholic presence in the state while highlighting that that it has 106 schools, 5 colleges and 1 university across Nagaland.

Where our hearts and minds come together for healing and transformation

In its second edition now, Dr Johnny Ruangmei, President of Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) highlighted that the Nagaland Catholic Choral Fiesta is being organised with the very objective of beginning the journey of healing and transformation through music.
“It is our aim that every Catholic youth from every parish across the state will be looking forward to this competition for healing and transformation in our coming together”, he said.

He also emphasised that “there is a scope where we can bring the talents of our youth into exponential growth in making the singing more professional.” CAN, as an institution, he added, is striving to make it significant.
