In an apparent displeasure over the proposed pen down strike by the Confederation of Four Associations (CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA and NF&ASA) from November 22, the Minister for Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Imkong L. Imchen opined today that Nagaland must be undisputed champion in staging agitating in India.

“I am more than 100 per cent sure, if there is contest or competition for successfully staging, protest, strikes in India, Nagaland will be undisputed champion,”Imchen told media persons here today in his office chamber.

A meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on induction into IAS with the representatives of the NCS/CANSSEA/other concerned associations has been convened under the Chairmanship of H&FW on November 22, 2PM here in the conference room of the office of the Home Commissioner.

In this regard, Imchen pointed out that the circulation for tomorrow’s meeting notice was issued on November 16 last and lamented that despite the knowledge, “they (CoFA) are unable to wait but proceed with pen down strike from tomorrow.”

In Nagaland, service association or non service association, all the strikes or agitation are successful today whereas their work and performance in office are dismal, he further maintained. Those officers who never attend offices are very much effective on talking of agitation and available whereas they never stay in office, Imchen said. “As far as efficiency in agitation and strike is concerned Nagas will be champion in India and even the world but not in performance and good things,” he reiterated.

Depiction of 60 MLAs as most corrupted ‘unfortunate’

Meanwhile, Imchen also expressed his annoyance over the depiction of the 60 MLAs in Nagaland as the most “corrupted, untouchable and dirtiest persons in the world” by the people. Terming it as “unfortunate,” Imchen said, “As MLA myself, I have my limitations and weakness. But many of my colleagues and MLAs are doing very good.”

“Depicting the whole totality of the state legislators in such way is unacceptable and derogatory position, not only in the state but beyond, is something I cobsider very painful and hurting,” he said. “It will not bring about anything good for Nagas in general.”

In an indirect bombardment to the electors in Nagaland, Imchen said “the elected representatives know how difficult it is to get oneself elected to the status of an MLA.”

“I can imagine how unfortunate were my friends who have contested and lost the election, because election in Nagaland is the costliest in India. It is not only the making of the candidates alone but it is by the system itself.”

“Nagas are simply over critical people with an attitude of holier than thou,” he quipped.
