‘Nagas are passing through most decisive moment’

NSCN (IM) Steering Committee Convener stresses on need to work together

Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The Convener of the NSCN (IM) Steering Committee,  Maj (Retd.) Hutovi Chishi on Tuesday said that Nagas are passing through the ‘most decisive moment’ and that “We have to choose which way to go.”

In a press statement,  Chishi said that Nagas have to choose whether to be carried away “by the wave of anti-Naga forces,” or to defend the historical and political rights of the Naga people.

The decision is crucial “as the enemies are at work sleeplessly,” he said.

He expressed disappointment at how some “respectable Naga organizations cheated themselves and Naga nation” by ignoring the historical and political significance of defending the Naga flag and constitution.

He asserted that the struggle of more than 70 years has been under the banner of Naga flag and the constitution (Yehzabo) as the guide to “who we are and how we function as distinct people.”

While appreciating the Nagas “who stood firmly behind Indo-Naga political issue,” Chishi stated the need to work together leaving behind “petty divisive politics.”

“Let us keep in mind that if we mishandle the ongoing Indo-Naga issue we shall be answerable to the future generations,” he stated.

“It is unfortunate to have many black sheep in the garb of Naga national freedom fighters,” Chishi lamented.  While stating that those persons devalue the political sanctity of Naga issue, the Convener added that posterity will judge them for “contaminating the Naga issue.”

Continuing the attack on the Interlocutor RN Ravi, the Steering Committee Convener said that despite the attempt to portray the Naga political issue as a ‘law and order problem’, the NSCN (IM) will “take the stand to defend Naga political issue at all cost.”

“Any organization or individuals who are falling in line with Ravi are to be classified as anti-Nagas,” he said, and added that the Naga people “will not forgive those who are trying to kill the rights of the Naga people by supporting India’s suppressive policy.”

He further said that the NSCN (IM) will never sign any agreement that affects the freedom of future generations.

“We will not betray our God who gave us the right and conscience to live as a free nation,” Chishi said.

He also shared the need to honour leaders like Khodao Yanthan, Gen. (Retd.) Kholi Konyak and Isak Chishi Swu who died without seeing the fruition of the struggle and appealed to intensify the struggle under the Collective Leadership of Q. Tuccu, Tongmeth Wangnao and Th Muivah.

Asserting that at the international level, “Nagalim is not alone,” Chishi highlighted the support of the UNPO and well wishers across the world.

“We are grateful to them. We are happy that our Naga brethren abroad stayed connected with the Naga issue. That is the spirit we value the most because they are our ambassadors abroad,” he said.
