‘Nagas have common sense, but are disorganised’

Kohima, August 23 (MExN): A five-day training programme on ‘Incident Command System (Crisis Management)’ was conducted at the ATI Kohima. Speaking as chief guest at the commencement programme, Home Commissioner of Nagaland, Mhathung Kithan, IAS, encouraged the participants to take advantage of the presence of resource persons from USAID, New Delhi. He asked the participants to prepare themselves so as to be useful in times of emergency for helping people when needed.

Informing this, a press note received here stated that wanting to help others in emergency being the basic fundamental human nature, the chief guest stressed on the necessity of being well-organised to deal with any disaster in the days to come. Citing that Nagas have a lot of common sense but are less organised to deal with major urban disasters, Kithan mentioned that Nagas should adapt to the changing times and situation as the management system practiced in the olden days will never prove successful in the present age.

The Home Commissioner also exhorted the trainees to participate in the programme for themselves and not for the organisation, bosses or people around them. He further advised them to learn to respect themselves and said only then will they be able to love and respect others. The chief guest further added that large-scale disaster, which happens outside the state and country, may also strike our state in the future and, in this regard, said we should prepare ourselves to manage such disasters effectively.

The five-day training concluded on August 21. Resource persons for the programme included Prof. R K Pande, Dean of Kumaun University who is also a national core trainer in ICS, and Ravish Sharma of USAID, New Delhi.
