For many decades the misery of the Naga people is borne out of the inability to differentiate between reality and surreal in the quest for political solution. Today Nagas in Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are being deprived of their inherent right on all aspects because of the inglorious slogan invented by few impatient individuals some years ago, without proper homework and assessing the ground situation. It has created a chain reaction against the Nagas by other communities. Historical and political right of the Nagas is undeniable yet the emotional preparedness of both the Nagas and their neighbors were not considered and thus as things stands today, after more than ten years and seventy rounds of talks. Nagas are kept in a limbo by the so-called political dialogue. It truly has nothing resembling a path towards political solution. A decade old fruitless political negotiation is a great blackout in the history of any Nation. Naga people shall seek political solution but not on the whims and fancies of an individual, tribe or region.
The solidarity and emotional attachment between Nagas of present state of Nagaland and that of Nagas in Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has undeniably been diminished owing to subversive activities in the name of the Naga political struggle. The overall relationship with other communities, peoples and nations are at its lowest ebb. The lingering mistrust and suspicion has been aggravated so much. The impractical political slogan of Th. Muivah has only created much fear and distrust within the Naga family as well as in the neighborhood. Tribes and communities have been threatened. Nagas have witnessed that men and women with political vision have been identified and silenced.
It is also for the Government of India to acknowledge that today there is potentially a large scale ethnic conflict particularly in North Cachar hills. Zeme Nagas are experiencing untold sufferings owing to ill-conceived covert indulgence of Muivah’s group. The involvement of Muivah’s cadres in N C Hills must be stopped immediately. Innocent Zeme Nagas cannot effort to remain retaliatory targets because of the wrong politics of Muivah. Villagers are being victimized by extremists to create further division between the Nagas and other communities. Extreme terrorist activities pursued by a group have displaced the once Naga-Dhimasa fraternity and brotherhood.
In Arunachal Pradesh, Muivah’s men have assumed the character of thieves and dacoits out to harass and exploit the common man rather than fighting for Naga cause. The 29th July 2009 media report of firing at Noklu village, Lazu sub division in Arunachal Pradesh confirms this. Naga Army was informed of the presence of dacoits harassing businessmen and contractors in the vicinity. On confrontation, the men creating nuisance were later identified as Muivah’s men. While reaffirming itself to the Covenant of Common Hope, GPRN/NSCN shall continue to ensure that anti-social elements do not hold the Naga society to ransom. This is the reality which the Nagas must be conscious of at all times.
