
DIMAPUR, JULY 18 (MExN): The National Reading Month was celebrated in Longleng under the theme ‘Read and Grow.’ The month-long program which commenced on June 19 culminated with a grand event on July 18 at DPDB Hall, Longleng with SDO (C) Longleng, Meyazungba Jamir as the special guest.
EAC Longleng, Dr. Samuel Akho Konyak P delivered the introductory speech, highlighting the library movement initiated by PN Panicker and its transformative impact on Kerala. He emphasized the relevance of implementing similar initiatives in Nagaland, particularly in Longleng District, a DIPR report stated.
In his address, Meyazungba Jamir, praised the exceptional speeches delivered by the students and encouraged them to nurture healthy reading habits throughout their lives.
Rev Fr Salas, Headmaster, St Joseph High School, Longleng, delivered the closing remarks, highlighting the various types of reading and the potential progress a society can achieve through this vital practice. He expressed gratitude to the district administration for organizing such remarkable and fruitful program, acknowledging the students as future leaders who will shape society.
On the occasion, an apt and engaging speech competition on the topic ‘Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader’ was held, with participation from eight government and private schools. Mulung Jungla from Christian High School, Longleng, clinched the first prize, while Leetau from Phom Lempong Higher Secondary School secured the second position. B Chuli Phom from Shamakok Mission High School and Yonglang L from St Joseph's High School, Longleng shared the third prize.
A dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Wanmon, DB, and Good Shepherd School presented a special song during the event. The program was chaired by Kihovi Sema, ADEO Longleng.
