NBDA revitalize bamboo mat due to high demand

Mokokchung, July 22 (DIPR): In order to meet with the high demand of Bamboo Mat from outside the State and also to boost rural economy, the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) is imparting training on making Bamboo Mat to the villagers in Mokokchung District.

According to the NBDA officials, a Plywood industry based in Arunachal have placed a demand of 20,000 bamboo mat per month while another ply industry in Mumbai have also place a demand of 50,000 bamboo mat per month, whereas only 10,000 bamboo mat in a month can be produced from the district so far. Thus, to meet with the high demand, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency is making all effort to trained and put villagers in the bamboo mat business by bringing up 4 clusters in the District namely, Anaki, Japukong, Changkikong and Asetkong clusters. It has been said that two weeks after the 1st phase of the training, the officials of NBDA would give a follow-up visit to all the villages.

On July 14, sponsored by the NBDA, a training programme on bamboo mat making was held at Mulungkimong village where experts in bamboo splits from 3 villages namely, Mulungkimong, Mulungyimsen and Yimjenkimong attended the training.

The same training was held at Yajang Village on July 15 where people from 7 villages including Yajang A, B, C, Lirmen, Tsurmen, Akumen and Armongkong participated in the training. On July 21, Villagers from Waromong, Mongchen and Dibuia were also imparted training at Dibuia village. Apart from the experts of the three villages, the Head Master of Govt. Middle School Dibuia along with 10 students also attended the training as part of SUPW in school. Ao Senden (HOHO) President, Lendinokdang who also attended the training encouraged the trainers to take the training seriously so as to contribute in boosting the rural economy.
