NCSU laments over BRTF ‘workmanship’

Kohima, August 12 (MExN): The Nagaland Contractors’ and Suppliers’ Union (NCSU), Kohima has lamented over the “poor workmanship” of BRTF operating in the state. In a press release here, the general secretary of NCSU stated that the union has often requested the BRTF authority and the state government to ensure the quality of work but the Sidzu Bridge, which was constructed under BRTF collapsed on May 2, 2007 and had been left without restoration for more than two years.

It said that NCSU has requested BRTF several times to reconstruct the bridge but no action has been taken so far. Moreover, the roads maintained by BRFT:  “Chakhabama – Cheteba under NH150 and Musulomi –  Chizami (landslide area) have gone bad to worst”.

The note further added that the NH39 maintained by BRTF at Kiruphema (Lalmati) and KMC (Dumping area) and below Naga hospital is “questionable as labourers work there for 365 days but no improvement has been seen till date”.

The NCSU mentioned: “People look forward to BRTF as the best construction organisation in the country but their skills have failed in many fields.” It stated that the BRTF use the same old methods in their work. Therefore it has appealed to the engineers and professionals to take up the work and bring development to the state.

The NCSU also claimed that Public Works Department (PWD) can do much better than the BRTF and has urged the government to take up the construction works undertaken by BRTF to PWD for better development and implementation in the interest of the public.
