NF Railway reports strong freight performance across divisions in April

Maligaon, May 16 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) reported strong freight performance across its divisions in April 2026, registering substantial loading figures across multiple commodities while also introducing measures aimed at facilitating trade and cargo movement in the region.

According to an official release, in a key operational development, Rahamatpur and Pawakhali stations under the Katihar Division have been opened for handling both outward and inward goods traffic, including domestic as well as Bangladesh-bound consignments, with effect from April 16.

The railway also informed that the exemption of Busy Season Surcharge on bamboo traffic transported in covered wagons originating from NFR has been extended for another year, from May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, to promote bamboo transportation and support allied industries.

Under the Alipurduar Division, nine rakes comprising 378 wagons of potato were loaded from Dhupguri station to New Tinsukia and Salchapra, generating freight revenue of Rs 1.61 crore.

In Katihar Division, three rakes consisting of 126 wagons of maize were loaded from Purnea Junction and Jalargarh stations, earning freight revenue of Rs 0.33 crore.

Meanwhile, the Lumding Division recorded significant freight movement across multiple commodity segments. 

A total of 1,684 wagons of stone chips were transported from stations including Moinarband, Panchgram, Ditokcherra, Bihara, Molvom and Sukhovi to destinations such as Jirania, Sabroom, Belonia, Ambassa, Udaipur and Sairang, generating freight revenue of Rs 7.64 crore.

In addition, 1,986 wagons of cement were loaded from Tetelia, Star, Lanka, Salchapra and Kamalajari to destinations including Dimapur, Katihar, New Tinsukia, Jorhat Town, New Jalpaiguri, New Bongaigaon, Rangiya, Jirania, Sairang and Falakata, generating revenue of Rs 10.96 crore.

The division also handled 400 wagons of Petroleum Oil and Lubricants (POL), earning Rs 3.41 crore in freight revenue. In the bamboo sector, 20 wagons of bamboo chips were loaded from Lamsakhang, generating revenue of Rs 0.18 crore.

NFR stated that it continues to focus on strengthening freight infrastructure, improving customer-oriented policies, and ensuring efficient transportation services to support economic growth and industrial development across the North-East and adjoining regions.
