NFR sections identified for capacity enhancement works under Railways’ Vision 2024

Maligaon, January 25 (MExN): The Indian Railways in its ‘Vision 2024’ document has identified three High Density Network (HDN) and two Highly Utilized Network (HUN) routes in the Northeast Frontier Railway Zone (NFR) zone for capacity enhancement through doubling of track by March, 2024.

According to updates from the NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda on Monday, the HDN routes are New Bongaigaon – Rangiya – Agthori, Ambari Falakata – New Maynaguri and New Maynaguri – Gumanihat sections and the HUN routes are New Bongaigaon – Goalpara – Kamakhya & Digaru – Hojai sections. 

The national transporter has also targeted to complete the double line of the Lumding – Furkating section by 2024. Moreover, work for doubling of the Katihar - Kumedpur and Katihar - Mukuria sections are also on hand, the release stated.

With this, the entire section of NFR up to Furkating will have double line track by 2024 which will help to further increase train movements towards NE Region, it added.

Chanda stated that electrification work up to Guwahati is targeted to be completed by June while the work for the section between Guwahati and Lumding is targeted for completion by August. All other remaining sections in the NFR zone are targeted for commissioning by March, 2023.

Further stating that the work of provision of Train Collision Avoidance System is also proposed to be taken up in the NFR to improve safety in train operation, enable train operation in foggy weather and eliminate cases of signal overshooting and over speeding, Chanda stated that work of HDN portion is targeted for completion by December 2023.

After completion of all works envisioned in the document entire mainline portion of NFR will be fit to run trains @130kmph., he added.
