A fraudster by the name of Mintu Das alias Amar Jain was apprehended by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on Friday, August 7, from Tourist Lodge while he trying to recruit members into a non-existent NGO –‘Amar Ektha Group.’
A pamphlet circulated by the fraud states that the so-called NGO was formed in the year 1997 in Lucknow and had received recognition from the Government of India in the year 1998 with one Ritesh Jain as its president. The pamphlet stated that its “law” is “earn and help”. The said ‘president’ passed away in the year 2000 and was succeeded by one Amrit Verma while a Sunil Paswan was its secretary. Its “regional manager” was stated to be one Isac L Shohe. It is believed that all the mentioned names are bogus and non-existent. The pamphlet claims further that its head office is located in Lucknow while its ‘regional office’ is in Shillong, Meghalaya. The said ‘NGO’ has its main office in the state at Kohima, the pamphlet claimed. The fraud is reported to be originally of Khakhati, in Karbi Anglong, and used the name of Amar Jain of Udaipur as a false front. The DNSU, it is learned, was informed by applicants who got suspicious as to the authenticity of the said NGO. Based on the information DNSU executives went to the Tourist Lodge where a recruitment process for “senior field executives” was said to be in progress.
From there he was taken to the DNSU office to ascertain his motives it was learned. On questioning he confessed that the said NGO he was trying to float was a fake. It was learned that five applicants were already recruited while 22 applicants applied for the said “interview” on Friday. He is said to have charged Rs 150 per application.
He is also said to have in his possession a “letter of approval” from the SDO (Civil), Khatkhati while three SIM cards and 20 passports were recovered from him. He was later handed over to the police.
