NGRC-1CU criticizes NFHCC for forcing contractors into separate agreements

KOHIMA, MARCH 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Government Registered Class-1 Contractors Union (NGRC-1CU) has raised concerns over the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee’s (NFHRCC) demand for contractors involved in the mega project to sign separate agreements with the Committee.

In a press release, the NGRC-1CU President Theyiekielie Tachü and Legal Advisor Vitsorel Lcho stated that it is standard practice for contractors to sign contracts directly with the concerned department, and these agreements, which they believe have been carefully drafted by the government, should serve as the definitive documents for all related matters, including delays, quality standards, and payment issues.

The Union emphasized that contractors working on the foothill road project are committed to executing the project diligently and responsibly. It expressed concerns that involving external organizations in the contractual process, particularly through forceful means, could create confusion and hinder the successful completion of the project.

While the NGRC-1CU has no objections to contractors who voluntarily choose to enter into additional agreements with the NFHCC, it urged the Committee not to pressure contractors who are unwilling to do so, cautioning that this could set a negative precedent for future projects.

The Union acknowledged the NFHCC’s objective to monitor the progress of the contract work and encouraged their continued vigilance but requested that the Committee refrain from imposing additional agreements on contractors who do not wish to engage in them.
