The Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association’s (NIDA) agitation regarding the superannuation age issue entered its sixth day on November 2. Against the backdrop of healthcare services being disrupted across the state, members of NIDA have been persistent in their demand.

Speaking to The Morung Express, NIDA President, Dr Bernard Amer said "we are still waiting and watching what the government's approach to this problem and awaiting any reciprocation from them." On the NSF's statement terming NIDA's demand as 'not justified', Dr Amer acknowledged that the NSF has been fighting the superannuation issue for all the employees in Nagaland, while adding “we know the history very well.”

However, he maintained that “our only consideration from them is that the medical profession is little different from other professions.”

He argued that the state can hardly produce medical doctors as MBBS seats allocated is 60-65 in a year. "It’s not like other graduates where we produce thousands every year," said Dr Amer adding that the picture is completely different.

While understanding the views of the NSF, he maintained "the only thing we wanted from them is to understand, and leave it to the discretion of the government; then it would have been very helpful.' Meanwhile, he informed that that the NIDA would continue its agitation of cessation of work except for emergencies.
