NIDA NHAK Unit supports superannuation

Kohima, April 3 (MExN): The Nagaland in-service Doctor Association (NIDA) members at the Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) has extended their full support to the Association’s demand of extending the superannuation age of all in-service doctors in Nagaland from 60 to 62 years.

This is in line with almost all other states of India which have increased the superannuation age of doctors, fulfilling the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the unit stated in a press release.

This is an urgent requirement to tide over the acute shortage of trained doctors in government service, which is even more pertinent in Nagaland, as many more doctors would be required for the upcoming two medical colleges and several newly created districts, it said.

In addition, there is shortage of in-service doctors at present in the State as per the per Indian public health standard guidelines, it added.

In this connection, the NHAK Unit urged the State government to keep its promise of sorting out this issue before the one year deadline for action, which ends on April 17.

In the unfortunate event that the government fails to keep its promise by the stipulated time, we along with all our NIDA colleagues are ready to go for any form of mass agitation (as decided by NIDA) to fight for our just cause, the unit added.
