Nigerian national arrested with currency counterfeit ‘materials’

Dimapur, April 26 (MExN): A Nigerian national was arrested by the Dimapur police for possessing “materials” and “chemicals” for making fake currency notes. A press release from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur stated that the arrest was made on April 25 last from Notun Basti.  The release however, did not specify the materials and chemicals which were seized from the arrested, who was identified as one Ewa Eric Anyimba.  
 “Two other Nigerian nationals and one Liberian national alongwith another person reportedly from Manipur escaped before the police could reach the spot”.   According to the release, the five had reportedly reached Dimapur on April 25 by train and had lodged at different hotels “looking for customers to dupe and extract money from the gullible ones.”  The five had reportedly duped one “customer” and cheated him of a sum of Rs. 1, 50, 000.  
The release mentioning an unidentified complainant stated: “the accused came to his residence at Notun Basti claiming that they have the chemicals and materials to make counterfeit-currency notes and bank notes. To test their claim and out of curiosity the complainant insisted on seeing the chemicals and asked them to demonstrate the process of making the fake currency. The accused produced a bundle of black and white paper and a container of the unknown chemicals. While they were in the process of making the counterfeit notes, the complainant informed the police and apprehended one of the accused while the other accomplices managed to escape before the arrival of the police.”
“The bundle of black and white paper and the chemicals were seized by the police and a case registered under the relevant sections of law. Efforts are on to arrest the absconding accused”, the release stated.
