NLTV hosts placement drive at St Joseph University

Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): St. Joseph University hosted a one-day placement drive organized by NLTV, aimed at final-year and recently graduated students, particularly those from the Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) department. The event, facilitated by the university's Placement Cell in collaboration with the JMC Department, offered students a significant opportunity to explore careers in the media industry.

The day began with a pre-placement talk by Musaraf Ali Sheikh, from NLTV, who was accompanied by his team members Nukshi Chang, Tovi Ayemi, and Yanger. Sheikh provided an overview of the diverse opportunities within journalism, emphasizing the dynamic nature of news coverage, investigation, and objective reporting. He encouraged students to consider journalism as an exciting and impactful career path.

Dr. Naorem Nishikanta Singh, Head of the JMC Department, also addressed the students, highlighting that careers in mainstream journalism are not the only options for JMC graduates. He noted that advanced academic pursuits, such as earning a PhD. and teaching at colleges and universities, are viable alternatives.

Aching Susanna, the Placement Coordinator, emphasized the importance of local reporting, pointing out that local journalists play a crucial role in the media landscape by covering stories that are often picked up by major outlets. She encouraged students to recognize the value of local journalism in the broader media ecosystem.

The event concluded with a presentation by Sharmista Saikia, COO of NLTV, who discussed the importance of field and anchor reporting in media operations. Saikia elaborated on how these roles are essential to delivering content to audiences, providing a glimpse into the operational aspects of media companies.
