NNC/GDRN (NA) refutes allegations

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 23 (MExN): The NNC/GDRN (N-A) issued a statement refuting claims made by its former president, Kiumukam, following his termination from office.

In a press release, the NNC/GDRN (N-A) stated that Kiumukam was removed from his position on February 5 for what it described as “anti-government and anti-people policy and action.” The council accused Kiumukam of misusing “the government machinery like his personal and hereditary property, defying all rules and regulations under the constitution.”

The organization said that the council and its government “belong to the people,” rejecting the notion of individual ownership or control within its structure.

The statement also addressed Kiumukam’s recent allegations against Ato Kilonser Shehoto I Yesca, particularly concerning his health and leadership capabilities. The council noted that Kiumukam had himself appointed Yesca to his position, describing him at the time as “a reputed and dynamic person.” The council further alleged that Kiumukam was now attempting to “malign him today to cover up his acts of omissions and commissions.” The NNC/GDRN (N-A) also revisited earlier accusations against Kiumukam, stating that he had been impeached in 2016 for “financial embezzlement” but was retained due to support from “patriotic leaders” who aided him during that period.

The current leadership, under President L. Shiludi Longkumer and Ato Kilonser Shehoto I Yesca, rejected any association with “intimidations, extortion, [or] coercion,” asserting that the group only accepts “wilful contribution and support from those who understand the Naga National cause.”

Responding to warnings of potential repercussions from Kiumukam’s supporters, the council reaffirmed its commitment to “work and fight for the cause of the Nagas at all cost.”
