Kohima | June 19
Following the submission of the report on June 16 by the Judicial Inquiry Committee on the Tuensang fiasco of May 26, the Nagaland State Cabinet had a closed door meeting at the office of the Chief Minister at New Secretariat, Kohima on June 19 which lasted for almost 3 hours.
Though no concrete decision was taken by the Cabinet in today’s meeting, it was informed that the Eastern Nagaland Legislatures’ Union (ENLU) has been entrusted to meet with the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO). The meeting between the two is scheduled to be held on June 20 at Kohima.
When enquired on the outcome and decision of the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio interacting with some media persons on his way out said “we have studied the report and asked the ENLU to meet the ENPO to discuss the report findings and recommendations.”
After the meeting, members were tightlipped on the contents of the JIC findings, and attempts by the media persons to meet some of them were declined.
An elected representative meanwhile maintained that the report is ‘confidential’ which cannot be brought out in the public domain. He informed that the Cabinet will sit for a meeting after the ENLU’s meeting with ENPO to decide on the next step.
‘NHM issue should be brought in comprehensive manner’
On being asked about the imbroglio between the NHM employees and the Department of Health & Family, Rio maintained that the issues should be brought in a comprehensive manner and not in piecemeal.
“I have given direction to the Department of Health & Family Welfare, that they should not come in piecemeal, all the issues of doctors and nurses should be brought in a comprehensive manner so that we will decide whatever is to be decided” said Rio.
The CM further stated that with the government’s intention to upgrade healthcare for public throughout the state, it is prepared to create posts for doctors and nurses, and other supporting staff as well.
He said the issue ‘got entangled’ as it was brought in piecemeal, and the department didn’t raise any issue about NHM staff or the service rules.
“The other day they didn’t raise any issue about NHM staff, they didn’t mention about the service rules, all the P&AR and finance was there; they brought in piece-meal so it got entangled” the Chief Minister stated.
Towards this, he said the department has been asked to give a comprehensive report which will be decided at one go.
